G'day Josh,
My mates Adam, Val and I are shipping our bikes from Sydney to Vladivostok and are planning to leave Vlad around the first week in June 2010. Probably a little early for you. Might see you on the road. What is your route? We are looking for another couple of bikes to share our container with.

Lets stay in touch

Sounds possible though. I am still flexible about the date. My research has really only gone as far as the weather and a few articles about what to expect. I would like to stay in touch. The earlier part of my trip will start this february in america heading south, shipping my bike from south america to africa and so on heading east. So there is a lot of unknown variables between here and there. Did you mean container from Australia or a container in that section ( I forget what its called) that you have to get on a train through Siberia- the swamp. Josh

The Trans Siberian Highway is now a good road with only some sections of unsealed road east of Baikal. These are good regularly graded sections and they are surfacing it all the time and the road should be tarmac all the way soon. Bikes, family cars, and trucks are using it all the time. No swamp!

However if you want it tougher consider the BAM, further north. Certainly parts match your anticipated swamp. You may have to resort to train.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
