SF to Ushuaia next week!

Hi folks,

I was initially planning to ride from San Francisco to Usuaia solo (I still love the idea) knowing that no one will stick with me through all the back roads and detours that I'll be taking but then I figure that it would be nice to have some company at least some of the time so here is my shot:

I'm leaving from San Francisco to Ushuaia via Baja starting the 17th or 18th of august (Next week!!) so if anyone is interested in joining me I'd be more than happy. I speak fluently Spanish and Portugues so mingling with the locals is second nature to me. I'm riding La Negrita (a tricked out BMW g 650 XC (previously owned a 1200 gs but I'm convinced that a 650 or the fabled f 800gs is the way to go)). All those crazy stories of danger in the roads don't scare me a bit but yes (its not my 1st time), I am coutious about any sign of danger. I'm a fan on doing things the cheap way but I do know that sooner or later I will have to cough up some doe to stay in some hostel for the sake of security, So if anyone is interested give me a shout.

I'll be leaving Panama about the 14th of September, heading towards Ushuaia. How long do you intend to take to get this far? If not here, maybe meet up in Columbia. Keep me posted on your itinerary.

September hook up

Hi Steve,

I'm planning a two year trip (back and forth) so I have no hurry. My only time table is the rainy season in central and northern SA. I'm planning to spend a month or so in the Yucatan peninsula including Guatemala and Honduras visiting as many Mayan sites as possible so I should definitely be in Panama by September. I'll keep you posted as of my schedule. Are you planning to travel to Colombia by sea? That seems to be the most logical way.

I'm leaving Colombia about October 15/20. First month in Peru, second in Bolivia. I'm also riding back roads. Starting Peru on Chachapoyas and moving onto Huaylas alley, just mountainering.

But your two years trip means we can only meet for a short ride because my roud trip to Ushuaia is 4/5 months. Let us be informed about your progress.

You say not wanting to get the rainy season in northern SA, remember the maximum in Peru and Bolivia is January, and back roads deteriorate.

I'm riding Suzuki DR-650. By the way, my mother language is Spanish.

From Colombia to Ushuaia

Hola Santiago,

Yo tambien hablo Espaniol (soy de Puerto Rico). Sounds like I might be in Colombia some time when you are planning to depart. The back roads are the way to go. I'm not a fan of highways or big cities and I'm into camping as I go.

Where in Colombia are you from or where in Colombia are you right now? I'm planning a couple of stops in Colombia to meet some friends and the likes. What is your planned route?

Hola Santiago.
