Searching travellers for crossing Syria?

On our trip with 2 motorbikes (a couple) form the Netherlands to South Africa we are looking for other overlanders for crossing Syria. At this moment we are in the the area of Alanya (Turkey).

Maybe there are other travellers which will try to cross Syria around 23 October 2011? We really hope so! If somebody knows a better and saver way of coming into Jordan/Egypt, please contact us as well!

Probably still possible and safe

I'm in Olympos, Turkey at the moment. About 15 minutes ago I was speaking to an overland tour truck driver. He left his passengers to fly Jordan to Turkey, but drove the truck through. He was saying it was ok, but wasn't sure if they would let motorcyclists across the border. He's a regular and they know him. He said to transit through is probably still ok, but touring around to see the sights probably not.

Hope that helps.

Our friend is in the club from Cape town and has just done this trip on the opposite direction, from Egypt..
As what he tells, police check points in every 10 km,all your luggage is checked for several minutes each time and everything, panniers, luggage etc.are kicked and thrown on the road.
He is staying in our club in İstanbul now and he will be happy to answer all other questions you may have.
This is his facebook page link after he permitted me to write it here.

Seems still there is no guaranty, all is in your own risk.
Hope you can do it and continue to realize your trip.

Wish you all the best.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
