San Fran to Belize/Guatamala Mid Jan 2010

Myself and my Versys are heading out mid month to Belize and Guatamala on a 6 week trip. Having done an 8000 mile trip round Mexico a few years back, want to get down to Chetumal ASAP and spend time in Belize and Guatamala.
anyone heading that way?

I am heading out this Friday 29th Jan. Whats your plan? Great to team up for some or all of the trip. I need to be in Belize City by 13th Feb.

I've heard Belize are charging an entry fee these days. $100 USD rings a bell? This for US passport holders, not everyone. Not sure on this, any confirmation? It's called a reciprocity tax, as this is what US charges their nationals to enter USA. This is now in place in several Latin countries, usually only levied when flying in, not entering via land border. Not sure on Belize.

Hope you get a chance to visit Cancun (very cheap rates now for fancy Hotels) and Isla Mujeres. The Cayes (pronounced "Keys") off the Belizian coast are a trip as well.

This time of year would be good to ride the main road out of Belize City up to Guatemala, then up to Tikal. Beautiful country. Years ago it was all dirt road, now it may be paved, no idea. But well worth the ride.

Look over on ADV, several riders hanging out now in San Cristobal de las Casas, Xela (Guate) and of course Antigua, Guat. Also, as always, lots of riders will be found riding around Lake Atitlan, Panahachel, San Pedro, all around the lake. Good luck, have a safe trip.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
