San Diego to Tierra Del Fuego
 

I'm Leaving late this week or early next week from San Diego through Baja and over to Copper Canyon or Mazatlan from La Paz. After that, I'm heading down the coast, through Guadalajara, more coast, Oaxaca, and Palenque. Then I will either head up to Chitzen Itza and down through Belize into Guatemala or just straight into Guatemala from Palenque. My goal is to be to El Salvador by Christmas and cross the Darien Gap sometime in January. then it's West coast to Tierra Del Fuego and up to Buenos Aires before I decide If I'll be riding north through Brazil or head back to NYC.

A little about me: I left NYC in February and have been traveling around the US/ Canada since on my KLR 650. I speak spanish but have yet to adventure south of the border. The plan of my trip has always been to make it as far south as I can as long as I feel safe and enjoy doing it.

I'm just finishing up some last minute preparations in San Diego and should be ready to leave by friday or saturday. I would be willing to wait until early next week if need be...

I'd like to meet up with fellow adventurers along the way either in the states or anywhere along the way. I plan on camping/ hosteling my way down. I am in no hurry so if you will be planning to make a b-line south solely on pavement, I may only make it the first day or two across the border before I start looking for dirt...

I would also be happy to check out what Baja Has to offer as far as off road fun.

Baja heading south
 

Hi Todd,
We are on our RTW from England. We rode the TAT across the States and have been in Baja for Three weeks, killing time. The Border at Tecate is good, the Immigration building is on the right just before the barrier. We have been camping on the beach 8 miles north of San Felipe at Pete's Campo - on the left just before the 2nd red and white comms tower after El dorado Raunch. Hot showers, wifi, bar etc for $15 a night and It's dead safe and a good place to go if it's late. Just before on the right is The Road runner Cafe - good place to eat and if you head up the dirt road past the Cafe you can find free camping spots after the power lines. The track that runs along the power lines is the Baja 1000 track. South of San Felipe the pavement ends at 85 miles, after Puertecitos. Alfonsinas at Gonzaga bay is nice. The AAA map of Baja is good and has gas stations marked. We have to head back to the States for Christmas before heading down roughly the same route as you, shame we missed you.

Correction - I meant the pavement ends 85 miles beyond San Felipe and just passed Puertecitos.

Morning..
I rode from Colorado to LA and then crossed at Tecate. I couldn't find a place to get visa or permits in Tecate but just headed down to Enscinada got my tourist 6month visa and then made my way down to a wedding in Todo Santos. I got my Permit for the bike in La Plaz at the ferry. Took the ferry over to Mazatlan, headed south and stuck to the coast all the way. Been amazing Sayulita is a rad place first or second main right coming into town before the bridge there is a hostel 13 bucks a night safe parking in the back on clean concrete if you need to work on bike. I am currently in Puerto Escondido taking spanish classes, surfing, visting with friends, and waiting for tires and a few other parts getting shipped down to me. I will be leaving in a week to ten days. I will be sticking on the Pacific coast until I get to Nica for Christmas, down to meet upo and shred some bikes with you. I as well on a klr 650.

Paul/ Fletch, Thanks for the info.

I was delayed in my trip and ended up spending christmas at home in New York. I'm now back in San Diego and ready to head south in the next few days.

My plan has been slightly downgraded and I'm now hoping to make it a central american trip unless I make it to panama and decide I can afford to push on further south. I'm still going to head down baja and cross either into the copper canyon or to Mazatlan and follow the western coast down and either take the Yucatan detour or head straight into Guatemala after hitting up Palenque first.

I would love to cross the border with someone else or at least find some people to ride with parts of the way.
