Iran NOW...the Pakistan run as a duo!...in Shiraz

In Shiraz today, will be here tommorow and in Persopolis the day after, then in Yazs for two days and then really its the drive to Zahedan (3/4 days i think...stops in Bam/Rayan/Kerman all camping), maybe a day trip to Zabol, before to Mirjaveh and attack the Pak border early in the morning.

Anyone care to join me. Its the first leg of the trip i'd like some company! Also any advice on where to stop between Taftan and Quetta?!

Theres a hotel (well, sort of!) in Dalbandin, about half way between Taftan and Quetta. Seemed like the only place to get fuel, too, with diesel on the pump, and gasoline in bottles. The road is good from Iranian border to Dalbandin, and after some 40kms from there it gets gradually worse. The last 100kms to Quetta can take several hours, so its a good idea to overnight in Dalbandin, rather than risk being on the road until sundown.

I wouldnt ride in that area after dark, and we actually ended up doing just that, some 130kms from Quetta, so then needed to stay overnight in a police station in Nushkin, which is 4-5kms off the main road, right next to the border with Afghanistan.

They had lots of people arrested there, plenty of armed cops, but probably still not the most secure place to stay, so best avoided. Didnt look like the town had many places to stay during our visit (Nov-07), and its possible that they wouldnt accept foreigners anyway. In Quetta theres lots of places.

From Taftan to Dalbandin good road at Dalbandin the Hotel is on your
right halfway through town, you'll see white plastic chairs outside a place
to eat down stairs and you can park moto inside, next morning up early get
petrol at side off road from petrol cans (bargin hard)
The next bit the road is crap and lonely but the locals
that i met where great, very friendly, at police check points fill out the
book and get your cup of tea :-)
I rode this road solo in Dec, not a problem but did get caught in a sand storm.

enjoy (i wish i was there now)
regards
joe

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
