Riding through Centro/South America?
 

Hi, am about to leave New Zealand and head over to Mexico to ride down through central and south america. I only started ridng here in NZ about 2 months ago and will need to buy a bike in Mexico. Would like some company for the trip and/or any advice/info on buying a bike in Mexico, as am bit of a virgin at all!!!!

Where are you starting in Mexico? I'm headed that way and onward to S. America in the near future.

I think you'd be able to find a suitable bike in Mexico, however, getting it registered in your name(needed for border crossings) may be tricky, especially if tu no hablas espanol.

Somewhere in Mexico City is about as far as I've got, and probably somewhere cheap! I should be leaving NZ in the next few weeks depending on when I can get a flight.

Yes the spanish thing might be a slight problem as so far I can ask for beer, coffee, the toilets and an ashtray. Not all that useful I'm guessing when trying to buy a bike! Ah well, makes it all the more interesting. I need to check out if a NZ provisional licence is ok to use over there as am on UK provisional at the moment which means am restricted to 125, (NZ is only 250 though, but slighty better).

When will you be there?

Headed South on December 1. Through Central and South America. I'll be in Costa Rica by February, and into S. America mid March. Hope to have a S.America rider's meet somewhere sometime...
