Riding in Chile, Argentina, Andes to Ushuaia

Greetings fellow adventurers,

I'm interested touring the Andes and traveling down to Ushuaia.

I'm looking at possibly renting a bike somewhere in Chile for 2 or 3 weeks.
Can anyone provide information on bike rentals? Any information on preferred routes and points of interest would be greatly appreciated. Anyone interested in riding with me? My schedule is flexible.

Thanks,
Tom

great bike rental place in Santiago and in osorno

hey Tom,
When we were traveling north from Usshuaia we stopped by Motoaventura in Osorno. They helped us out immensly with a number of small repairs and were super friendly and professional. They rent BMWs and also do tours. I forget the owners name but you can find it elsewhere on this forum.

Good luck with your trip and bring lots of warm clothes

Erika,

Thanks for the replay and referrals, much appreciated.

Since my schedule is flexible, maybe better for me to wait for warmer weather. What months do you recommend (October or November)?

Best wishes,
Tom

hey tom,
First of all congratulations on choosing such a beautiful and exciting ride. Patagonia was by far my favorite place, both for the people and the scenery.if you are flexible, I would wait until november. We crossed from osorno into bariloche, then entered chile to ride on the caretera austral near trevillin/futalufo. It was absolutely stunning, but also fairly wet. I highly recommend it. We went back into Argentina at chile chico. Then it wAs ruta 40 all the way down.
Best of luck
Erika

Erika,

I will most likely be riding solo (have not found anyone who is able to ride with me yet). And, due to my spontaneous life style and periodic work schedule, most of my riding is solo anyways, so am used to it.

What are your thoughts of riding solo down there? hotels / hostels? Safety of food and water? etc?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Regards,
Tom

Ride to SA

I'm planning on returning to SA, starting in Sept or Oct. Returned from there last June. I would not recommend Patagonia's east side as it's very windy, flat, boring and more expensive.

hi
for renting a bmw motoaventura (at the south , Osorno town)
also at the capital Santiago.

The country is safe to ride it. BB, camping , hotel isn ´t a problem.

Weather conditions are better from dec to feb if you re going to the south , patagonia.

I live in Viña del mar , and lived at the lake district, where begin the carretera austral.

If you need more information , don t doubt to contact me
