Rescuing a 4x4 in India and driving it home via North Africa - team members wanted!

Hi there,

My brother and I have spent the last few months organising a trip that would take us through India and Northern Africa, however the 2 other people planning the trip with us have had to pull out and we’re on the hunt for new adventurers to join us sometime this year.

The trip is fairly unconventional in that we plan to fly to India to pick up and repair our Great Uncles Mk 2 Land Rover from North India where he lived. He originally drove overland from the UK in it in 1958 with his wife before he settled there, so we wanted to try and retrace some of the route he took.

Our proposed route will take us from a town called Dehradun, down through India and then driving along the coast of Pakistan to get a ferry over to the U.A.E. Then up through Saudi Arabia and preferably into Egypt before crossing into Libya, Tunisia and up into Sicily, Italy and home.
We propose approx 3 months for the trip, but all of it (route, time etc) is very flexible and open to discussion.

We are both in our late 20’s and are looking for people of a roughly similar age, up for an adventure, happy to muck in and maybe with some mechanical experience so if you think you fit the bill – or know someone who does - please get in touch!

You probably know this already, but just in case you don't there's a Land Rover community in Darjeeling - they may be useful to talk to.

sounds great! give us some update when you are leaving. pakistan ferry to u.a.e. will not be easy i think. and how about saudi-arabia? visa etc? maybe it is easier to drive pakistan, iran, turkey, syria, jordan, egypt. you see definetily more and it is easier to arrange i think.
hope you get the land rover running or is it still running? all the best!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
