I'm not, but...

if you take the road through Loja to Vilcabamba and then into Peru it's a great ride and easy border crossing - at least go south through Jaen (you won't like that part) to Chachapoyas and go to Kuelap ruins ! Now that's a great ride. Turn left south of Jaen at the 'T' in the highway......you'll love it.
You can camp free at Kuelap and the caretaker will feed you for a couple of bucks a day.

Zig :scooter: in Santiago currently

Igorshen on ADVrider is a day ahead of you in Vilcabamba. He's a cool guy--I rode with him 1 day in El Salv then 2 days in Panama.

+1 on Kuelap Ruins--I really enjoyed it, although I rode to Leymebmba and stayed there. BTW, I thought the museum there in Leimebamba was just great. If you need gas, one of the people at a shop near the plaza central sells gas--it's only one person other than the guy up the road thats never there--so just ask and they'll steer you to the overpriced (12 soles/gal for 84 octane) gas.

Enjoy!

Zigeuner53. Hmmmm, why will we not like the part from Jaen to Chachpoyas? We are heading that way in a couple of days. My map shows no road from La Chonta in Ecuador across the border to San Ignacio in Peru, but I assume there must be. Thanks

Jaen

you will like the ride...sorry, poorly written !
Just that Jaen is ugly and unsafe...there a re hundreds and hundreds of displaced people living in blue tarps around the city...at day is ok though. Kinda spendy for hospedaje, I finally paid 15 dollars.
once you get to the ´T´in the highway about 30km south of Jaen, and turn left to Chacha the road gets better and better (more fantastic)
There is a border crossing into Peru....doesn´t show on google maps ...but it is there..very easy to do. Gas up before you leave Vilcabamba, when I was at Zumba there was a gasoline shortage and I had to drive around town and pay double to siphon out of tank.
