Is anybody riding from Ecuador to Lima, Peru in early to mid January?

If so, we can ride together for a 3 to 7 days.

Riding South from Quito in Jan

Canxcape,

I am returning to Equador on about the 10th Jan and plan to do a week in columbia then head South. I have already riden from Canada, but have been backpacking with friends for 2 months. If you are interested we could meet up and ride if the timing works. I am in no hurry and will be camping.

Cheers
Tim

Peru

Hi, TS:

I am leaving today from Manta located on the coast of Ecuador and heading towards the fronterra.

I plan to be in Lima on the 10th and Machu Pichu by the 15th of January.
Then its Lake Titicaca and into Chile for February.

This schedule is very flexible, and so it is possible to meet up.

We should keep in touch.

In Peru

Hola TS:

I am now in Chicolaya which is about 700 kms north of Lima. I may be here for two more days.

How is your trip going?

Did you make it back OK?Where did you fly back from?

Just a tiny suggestion. Gas up about an hour before you hit the Peruvian border. The gas is rationed in Ecuador at the fronterra, and the stations close at 4 pm. Long line-ups the next morning!

The town is called Catacocha which I believe is the last place to buy unlimited gas. And only cash, not credit cards. Police checks prevent hoarding in containers.

My experience was you line up at 2:30 pm if you wait until Macara, and the tanker comes at 3pm. FYI for vehicles, the limit is $15, Max if you're in a car. The second station is for bikes, the first station diesel. No hoarding allowed. You can also buy it AFTER the border in Peru, from private sellers, hoarding allowed, it's $3 a gallon, a dollar cheaper than Peru.

Been meaning to put all this info up for a week!
