egypt,sudan, ethiopia, kenya travellers sought

hello

i am looking for persons who are either doing this stretch or are planning on doing so in the next couple of months. i am in egypt now, intending to travel south along the nile to aswan, over the lake, to wadi haifa, on to khartoum and then east to ethiopia.
i have all my documentation in order, visas, etc,and my bike (yamaha tenere xt600 '88) is mechanically sound, the reason i am looking for people to travel with at this late stage is because my travel companion's bike has recently experienced serious mechanical problems causing him to stay in cairo for a month, whereas i do not have a month to spare in egypt, and need to continue.

if anyone is interested, please email me.

thank you very much
cabron

(ps i am a 28-year old english-speaking south african male for anyone contemplating me as a travel companion)

hi omar

thanks for your reply - just too late this time, as we rode down from alexandria to cairo yesterday (my friend's bike on a truck!). we might well give you a call sometime as we have a fairly large mechanical task on our hands and any help about sourcing spares in egypt would be much appreciated.

thanks again
carl

sudanese visa was a two stage affair:

to start with, we sent our passports back to south africa to the sudanese embassy there (we are south africans living in london), the visas were issued fairly quickly, provided all the requirements were there - letter from employer, hotel booking, etc.

unfortunately these were only valid for 30 days from date of issue, so by the time we had made our way through europe to egypt, they had expired, so we needed to get new visas in cairo.

this proved to be quite easy - US$56, four passport photos, and a letter of recomendation from our embassy, and we even got the visas on the same day as we applied. i think this was because we had already been granted them.

hope this helps. the sudanese embassy is in garden city near the nile in cairo, quite close to the american university in cairo.

hope this helps, and good luck!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
