Overland drivers/partners wanted

I'm a wheelchair adventurer planning a navigation of the Danube by kayak for next year and will be using my Hilux as a support vehicle to travel alongside the river and act as a camp/base each night.

Obviously if I'm doing the kayaking I'm going to need someone to drive the Hilux and meet me each night and wondered if it's the sort of thing anyone might be interested in doing.

Traveling from the UK to Germany, then following the Danube from there through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine and Romania to the Black Sea.

I'm tentatively allowing 70 days from the UK to the Black Sea so whoever came along would have lots of time to explore areas along the route whilst I'm paddling along each day. Food, accommodation and fuel will all be covered by me within reason. I'd like a crew of 3, including myself, unfortunately all my friends have commitments and can't dissapear for 3 months so I'm looking into the possibilities of letting anyone else come along who might be interested.

I'm not looking for people right now, just testing the waters to see if this is a viable option and looking for any other ideas on how to find reliable team members.

Sounds good,

Hi mate,

It sounds like quite a challenge you have there and I may be interested to come along and help out.

I'm currently working as close protection and medic in the middle east but based out of Edinburgh and I have plenty of 4x4 driving experience coupled with travelling experience too.

send me an email geoffshing@hotmail.com and let me know some more details. Sounds like fun.

Hi Andy

I'd be interested in working as support crew for your trip. I'm 36, ex RNLI crew, used to working under pressure as part of a team in a water based environment. Full Driving & Motorcycle licence. Current First Aid @ sea cert, VHF and power boat licence (not sure any of this is relevant to your trip though!).

feel free to drop us a line if you want to discuss anything

Best
Steve

My wife and I are planning to go to Mongolia next year by Land Cruiser, leaving April May time and intend to take it slowly, so could be interested in tagging along as a secod vehicle and to help as required, as it sounds like a superb challeneg to be involved in. I also intend to have cameras on the vehicle so could help film your exploit (and have professional help in respect of helping to edit).

I also know someone that could be very interested in driving your Hilux for you, he retires at Christmas so will have plenty of time, is an ex para and as fit as a fiddle.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
