Outback Australia this year?

Hi, Anyone planning to ride some of the Australian Outback roads this year in July, August or September and wish to consider a riding (own bike) mate please let me know. I am an old bugger but have riden many miles, countries and terrains including desserts.

Australia trip

Rob,
One of the best trips that I have done:-

Head up to Cape York - turn off when you get to the Telegraph track and follow it. When you get there, there is a campground / resort at Punsand Bay that is bike friendly - not far from the tip as well. Take a boat to Thursday Island and check out the fort as well as the airstrip on Horn Island. Make sure your bike is lock tighted from head lamp to tail lamp - there's corrugations within corrugations. Goes without saying - stay away in the wet.

Cheers Ben.

fraser island

I can recommend taking a bike onto fraser island,on ferry,as east coast beach from Eurong beach upwards is to die for.

I went there in 2006 and will be going back this year (2008) but I can only stick to the main roads and better dirt tracks as my fitness is not that great. I ride a Tenere but that is probably more for show, don't know if I'll ever ride a desert like you Westydubai.
Yes Duncanc99, I can vouch for Fraser Island as a great place to ride, I was there around 15 years ago with my brother on an xt 600. Better when it has just rained and the sand is hard, as the sand gets really chewed up by the 4 wheel drives when it is dry. You have to be on the lookout for washouts on the beach though as they can be a few feet deep and you can't see them sometimes till you are nearly on top of them. Riding on the beach at low tide is excellent fun and the coloured sands are spectacular.
