Oct. 2013: Seeking GB and/or Germans for China/Tibet entry & tour

Hi

Brit married to a German travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ 78 departing Germany June 2013 for the Stans and the Silk Road (more or less)

looking for travellers to make up 2 groups to go from Mongolia through China onto Tibet then onto Nepal in October 2013.

We're happy to hook up at any point in the journey, we would just like to get into Tibet and on to Nepal.
To do that, the current requirements state groups of 5+ of the same nationality, which unfortunately we do not meet and marriage and residence certificates don't count!

The plan would be to be in China & Tibet in October 2013.

The agency we would like to use can likely get a German group together, but unlikely to get a British one as well.

Anyone care to join? We have space for 2 (i.e. 1 plus Chinese escort).

Or anyone got any brighter ideas? Happy to supply more details if requested.

Hi Kayjay

This is great news and Have heard this before. Could you tell me which agency will confirm this.
We are looking at Tibet from Kyrgystan in August and leaving Tibet at the Nepal border 3-4 weeks later.

Cheers

It's all starting to look good for Tibet: the agency in china confirmed last week that currently there are no restrictions on group size or nationality!

The cost is high though, so if anyone else is interested in joining us with their own vehicle, we've got a route and a quote (6,900 EUR for 1 vehicle, 7,782 for 2 and 8,613 for 3) do get in touch!

Haven't negotiated anything yet with the agency (neither route nor price) so if anyone has any advice (just starting to trawl the posts for info now), happy to hear from you.

Suggested route is (also viewable on Tripline):

Mongolei – Erlianhaote – Urangab – Beijing – Datong – Taiyuan – Pingyao – Luoyang – Xi’an – Tianshui – Lanzhou – Xining – Golmud – Namtso See - Lhasa – Shigatse - Mt. Everest – Zhangmu - Nepal

He recommends 25 September to enter China (first week in October a week of national holidays...bad time to enter he says) and we'll take 30 days. I also have a description from him in my inbox as to which sites we'll visit along the way: let me know if you'd like me to email to you.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
