NYC ---> TDF in 2008

Looking for a riding partner for this trip. Preferably located in the city. Seems there are a few riders here from the city, anyone interested in discussing this trip please contact me. I'm just beginging to work out a plan, timing, etc, so all is flexible at the moment. I have a thoughht to do a shorter trip to Panama and back, but would prefer to be confinced otherwise. TDF is really the trip I want to take. Anyone interested?

Thumbs up

Hey fellow NY'er. I'm planning the TDF trip for 2009 but would love take part in the discussion of this trip as it developes.

How much time do you have carved out for this trip?

I would like to take anywhere from 6 months to a year for my 2009 trip. Maybe it will turn into a RTW if the going is good.

Hope to hear from you,
Dan ny (Staten Island)

Hi I'm based in San francisco but was planning to head to new york first before traveling down south. I have a klr 650 and its more or less kitted out to go. I haven't figured out the date I plan to leave, I have no time limit on how long it'll take.

Drop us a line anyway, take care Brigid

Bruce, Oisin, Brigid:

I'm based in NYC and looking to go south to TDF this year. My timing is pretty flexible but late summer/early fall is probably best due to the summer rainy season in Central America. Probably going to go on a KLR. Did the Alaska/Prudhoe Bay bit last summer (highly recommended) so would probably skip that, but it looks like we could probably get this group together and at the very least hook up in California and head south together. Wouldn't be averse to going west via Canada over the summer either.

I'm thinking late summer early fall myself. That gives plenty of time to plan and get things in order. I just did my first long trip this fall, NYC to Blue Ridge Parkway loop. just about 2k as preparation for a much longer trip. I'm thinking about 2-3 months for this trip. Any thoughts? Are any of you folks able to meet up here in the city to discuss plans and whatnot?

Thanks, Bruce

Don't seem to have enough posts for a private response.

Bruce - The others seem to be a few thousand miles away. But I can meet up at some point to discuss. Send me an email at snyderjes@hotmail.com. As for the timing, I was looking to go for longer than 2-3 months, but maybe you can just go to panama and return?

Oisin - Your plan and timing seem good. What route do you plan to take to Anchorage from Nova Scotia? I'd maybe consider going back to Alaska before heading down. Keep in touch, meeting up for the Central America bit at least would be great.

Bruce -

I'm in Brooklyn and planning to head to South America beginning Aug 1. Plan to stop for several weeks for a language program somewhere. I'm thinking at least 6 months. Anyway, I'd like to catch up and chat. You can email mee at data.dog@hotmail.com.
