Nigeria/Cameroon now/next few weeks?

Hiya guys,

I already met a few of you in the same area/time and would just like to give you an update of where I am, if you feel like joining up for a while?

Currently in Jos for 2 days - leaving on 1st Feb.
Then travel down to Calabar in 4 days, expect to get there on the 4th or 5th to apply for Cameroon visa. Then in to Cameroon....

Nikki to Abuja

Hi Ian, Jacqueline
Bummer, presume both of you down with one of each. How unlucky - whos taking care of who! Am in Abuja, getting Angolan visa Wed, got Congo one here in fifteen mins! Then down to Calabar and Cameroon... Martin might catch you up at some stage.
Came across Benin border at Nikki. Brilliant fun on 'road' to Kaiama - more like 55 miles of dry(ish) river bed. Wouldnt recommend in 4 wheels, or bicycle. First and 2nd gear whole way. Anyone wanting info on biking it, email me downtheroad at eircom dot net.

Waiting in Calabar

Hi everyone.

I managed to meet up with Felix and Taco in Gabon (along with Steve and Sarah in a Landcruiser) and we are now in Calabar. Train from Dolisie to Brazza is possible, but not to travel with a car. So we went to Calabar across some interesting pistes and are getting info on the Matadi road. Probably not too good for bikes, so probably take the boat to Soyo and continue from there.

I plan to spend a few weeks in Namibia, so probably meet up with some of you there.

Now in Luanda

We went to Dolisie to find out about the trains to Brazza - is possible, but if you are in a car, you cannot travel with it. Steve and Sarah were with us in a Landcruiser, so we decided to go to Cabinda straight from Dolisie, over an interesting piste and very quiet border.

Apparently the road to Boma from Cabinda is tough and muddy with long stretches of water. Felix did not want to risk it, so we investigated boats to Soyo and Luanda. Price is ok - 150usd, but apparently you get stung for some more money leaving the port in Luanda. The boat(s) went on Wednesday, so we decided to look into the option of a plane. We went to the military airport in Cabinda and got a flight the same day to Luanda. This cost 200usd each, but some went to the guy on the gate etc etc. The cost for the bike in the plane is 100usd, so a lot of negotiating can save you money.

We will spend about 1 week to get from Luanda to Namibia...so about 8th March in Etosha....not sure about Windhoek.

Take care if you attempt the piste road to Boma.

I am staying at the Swakopmund restcamp, if you are heading this way in the next couple of days. After this, I will go to Windhoek.
