Nepal end September - Oct. 2013
 

Hi,
We're a couple of travellers going to Nepal for two weeks, 27 Sept to 10 Oct. We're looking for other travellers to share the road for a motorbike trip to Pokhara, Chitwan & the surroundings.

Also any advice is highly appreciated although we've been reading the topics on bike travel through Nepal.

There are two of you apparently and "2s company, 3s a crowd".
You might want to explain how you aim to travel (your "style" of travelling), say more about your interests etc - you get the idea!

It is roughly a day's travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara, by the bus system (about 7-8 hours on the road which includes a rest stop or two when the driver has a place in mind).
Bikes can be hired in both of those locations; since you are reading the various threads in here then there is little more to add IMO, except --

Thanks walkabout for the welcome message. I'm new here and have just filled in the "about me" section.
I'm travelling with my wife, we'll be renting one bike (most likely the 350 Enfield) to carry us both and our luggage as well.
We are aiming for a relaxed ride with plenty of stops and exploring the surroundings, taking photos, etc.
We don't want to take on an organised bike tour because we would like to have the freedom to customize our ride as we go along the trail.

You can spend quite a few days in Pokhara and not become bored with the region, it is much more relaxed than Kathmandu regarding traffic, the pace of life and most other things.
Overall, the traffic in Nepal needs to be treated with respect; watch how they behave and "when in Rome do as the Romans do"!

If you rent from Matt at Hearts and Tears he will be give you all the advice regarding routes you can shake a stick at.

My two cents - the bus ride from Ktm to Pokhara is an experience but there is a shop across the road from the Kathmandu guest house in Thamel which can get you a plane ticket for 55 USD (not the 120 others will try for). It takes half an hour.

Two people and luggage? Rent one of the 500's.

Chitwan? Yep you can ride an Elephant ect but the Bardia National Park (a day further west) is alot less busy, unlike India you are allowed to walk around on foot (and thus not scare off everything within 200 meters with your landrover), and is considered pretty much the best place on earth to see a tiger.

Ask Matt for English John's phone number, I might have it somewhere too. He has some cheap and comfy accommodation in the park itself and some local guides who know where the local wildlife is (ie where the tigers come to drink water at a certain time each day). He's a nice bloke, and put me up for the night when I rode across Nepal.

An evening in the Old Inn in Bandipur (halfway between Ktm and Pokhara) is recommended too.
