Red face Turkey-Syria-Jordon-Iran-Turkey Circuit April - July 2011

Hello

I'm heading off on a Middle Eastern experience, shipping my bike from Australia to Turkey in April 2011 and doing a circuit down through Syria, Lebanon, Jordon then back up to East Turkey, a loop through Iran and back to the north of Turkey finishing up in Istanbul. I have 4 months to make the circuit starting in April and finishing in July.

I'm not into speed, (I have a 1993 Honda dominator) I like to see places off the main roads, meet people and try to get a real feel for the country I'm travelling through. I don't need luxury, I'll be carrying a tent but also staying in accommodation when I need to. I don't mind travelling on dirt roads...well....ok, I have a small phobia about travelling down steep gravel roads and sand & I have a strained relationship but overall I'm ok. I don't have heaps of experience travelling overseas, I have travelled around Cambodia with a some people and that was great.

So if you are heading that way, want to meet up for some of the trip or a drink or two, let me know!

Cheers
Adastra

Hi Michael

Yes, it would be good to catch-up! PM me and I'll send you my email.
Having some difficulties getting my Visa for Iran as a single female traveller - but might be able to hook up with someone to go over the border to 'make it seem right'.

Cheers

Hi Helen,

I should be in that area around then - its all part of my Australia to Africa trip.
I am currently in India waiting on my Pakistan visa (from australia... long story) then I shoud be moving across the middle east, visiting Pakistan, Iran , Iraq (if i can get into it) Turkey, Syria, Jordan and onto Africa.

So i think we might cross paths - please keep in touch!
Danielle

updated itinerary

Hi Danielle

As long as I get my Iranian visa we definately will!

Anyone else is welcome to come along - for any part of the trip.
I like back roads (not necessary gravel) and visting smaller towns, no major hurry - just go with the flow - not everyday in the saddle.

Greece to Turkey 27 - 29April
Turkey to Syria - 30April - 7 May
Syria back to Turkey 7 May - 20May ish
Turkey to Iran 20May to 27 May
Iran to Turkey 27May to 15th June
Back to Istanbul finishing about 1st week in July

See rough route here:

Cheers

Iran visa

Hello Adastra

I am a kiwi woman considering heading back to NZ on a motorbike but a bit hesitant about going alone esp across Iran and Pakistan.

My ex suggested the following for Iran:

Perhaps you can re-route thru the Stans, if you can't get a IR visa. :-)
In any case, don't tell them that you are travelling by bike or
overland. Visa will be refused. Tell only what they ask (golden rule
when dealing with officialdom) and if they do ask tell them you will fly
into Islamabad and you are going to travel to Gilgit and Hunza.

So i guess you could try that. I am wondering if we could travel together for part of the route. I would like to see syria and jordan too but things a bit hot there at the moment !!! In all Arab countries in fact

Get in touch anyway if you want to.. email probably best.

cheers

Jenny

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
