Will do Greg. There's four or five expressing interested right now so hopefully we'll get a nice small group together. Aim to begin to firm up plans in October. Stay in touch.

Best

i will most likely be doing the same route around this time. Should be in the UK by April 2011 (assuming i have not run out of cash or need to stay and work in London at all) and ready to leave around May 2011.

I am reasonably prepared with maps and GPS of Western & Central Europe, Turkey and Russia. No Carnets required, and only visa which need some research is the Russian one.

keep us posted on your plans. My trip details are here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...010-then-51237

Preliminary plans (for anyone interested in coming along to input into, change, reject, join for part or all etc.) are shaping up:

Start from 2nd Annual German ADV meet in Niedersolbach, Whitsun weekend, 11, 12 & 13 June 2011

Edit: See post 1 for itinerary.

I've been doing a little budgeting and reckon that the basic budget would be around $6,500 (£4,000). That's to cover fuel (19,000 kms), accommodation (82 days, camping/hostel during the week or when on the move and cheap but decent hotel at weekends or whenever stopped for a couple of days), food and personal spending money (s, visits etc.).

The budget assumes a bike already fully prepared and equipped and doesn't take into account visa fees and miscellaneous costs such as gifts, accident/breakdown, laundry, insurance, bribes, ferries and tolls. I'd probably want access to another £1,000 or so on top to make certain that I've got all of that covered and you know what they say, "halve the kit and double the money", though baring disaster, I can't imagine this is going to be significantly more expensive.

There's five people expressing interest right now and whilst I hold no false hope that everyone doing so will come along, I do believe that we're going to get a good, small group together for part, if not all of this trip. Let me know if you're interested in coming along; I'm going to try to get the UK guys together in late September/early October for a and a chat, probably Dartford area as that seems central to where we each live.

Any "expert", experience-based comments on route, milage, budget etc. most welcome too.

Hi Paul,

Just read your suggested route. Me? Plan to head through Russia/Kaz/Mongolia etc and on to Vladivostok so unfortunately right dates, just wrong place for travel meet. All best to you and others who meet up.

Excellent, Belle! I've signed up for a Russian class. We'll have to try to get together for a chat maybe end of September. I'll pm you and the others some dates.

Mongolia, Eastern Russia

Interestingly, I have been dreaming of setting up similar trip in 2010. as it turned out, not finding suitable riding partner, I vent for 6 weeks in Morocco. 10'000Km of which about 5'000k of "piste" in Morocco. Needless to say it was great but lots of hard work with my heavy BMW R1200GS Adventure.

Right, your idea of a small group is well in line with my dream project. Unless of course, if having a Swiss in the team is a major showstopper...

I Wouls appreciate bein included in the conversation loop. I may be able to fit in a trip to UK for first meeting.

Best

Hi JB

Swiss no problem at all, all are welcome who can be part of a team. I´m in Estonia right now doing a little tour of the Baltic but I´ll keep you posted about Mongolia when I get back in early September.

Hi guys, I'm from Switzerland too and planning a similar trip. I will leave switzerland in april 2011 ,so I will be a couple of month ahead of you, but as I'm not in a hurry (I have 6 months), maybe I will see you all somewhere.

I quite interested about your route, as I'm just now starting to organise mine.

Cheers

PS: JB from which part of switzerland are you? I'm from Fribourg.
