MA to OR Sept. 08

This trip is quite tame by most others posted here, but here goes. Not even sure if I'm looking for travelers to ride with, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway, see if something remarkable springs forth.

I'm leaving Pittsfield, Massachusetts (01201) on September 10th, I'll be traveling almost entirely on US Rt.20 with a final destination of Salem Oregon. I plan to take 12 days + or - and want to ride approximately 300 miles per day. My goal is to camp out as much as possible and see the "less traveled" side of America with some tourist attractions thrown in. I'll be leaving my bike in Oregon and flying back to Massachusetts.

I don't smoke, do drugs or cheat on my wife, but love good food and wine and a great story. I'm 56 years old, married with a baby coming in February (three weeks, maybe?). I drive a 2008 DR650 and though I've hitch-hiked across the US a few times in the 70's, I've never ridden a bike this far or for this long. I certainly don't have any reservations about going alone, but my wife thinks I should find a "buddy" to increase the safety factor. Well that's it....

Just in case you haven't heard about it, have you considered riding the Trans-Am Trail? From what I've read it will definitely take longer than the 12 days you were planning, but it would fall into the "less traveled" experience you are looking for. Trans-America Trail, Cross-Country Motorcycle Adventure, Motorcycling, Trans-Am Trail, Sam Correro, Dual-Sport, Motorrad Media, BMW, F650, GS, Road Less Traveled documentary,

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
