South America Trip Nov 2013?

Hello everybody!

Straight to the point and in a nut shell.

I'm planning a 6.5 month trip from Vancouver down through South America and back.

My tentative plan is
-to leave Vancouver Nov 1 / 2013
-Arrive in Panama Nov 15 (I'm planning on taking my time through central America on the way back)
-Upon arrival in Colombia the pace will slow down so the roses can be smelled
-Checking out the 2014 Dakar Rally will be a definite high light
-No real concrete plans other than that
-6.5 months is Ideal, but hell, it's a once in a lifetime trip so the credit cards could extend that

I'm 32 years old, laid back, like to have a laugh and enjoy people with a sense of humor, and I'm totally open to the suggestions and ideas of others.

I live in Vancouver, so for those who live overseas, If you want to save $2000 on shipping your bike round trip, I would be more than happy to inspect/kick the tires of any bike that you see for sale online (Vancouver Craigslist works best), and I would be more than happy to pick up and store any motorcycle purchases in my garage, help with getting insurance etc...

let the foruming begin.......

Cheers.

Bobby

Sounds just like my plan except I plan on leaving early October. Will be heading down the Baja Peninsula from San Diego. I plan on being in Columbia around mid November (same time as you) and will be on the road for about a year. Maybe I'll see you on the road if our schedules don't match up.

I have also been tentatively planning this trip with no real date of departure nailed down. May go earlier in the year, all depends on work. I will either be leaving from Idaho or Southern California, also depends on work. Would like to have a travel comrade though, so if the dates line up maybe we can meet up in the states or down south.

I'll be leaving Edmonton late August (going to Nakusp HU meet) with plans to be in Panama early to mid November. I'm taking a little more time southbound than you in C.A. but mine is a one way trip. (flying back). Perhaps by the time we are both in Costa Rica we might meet. Seeing some of the Dakar would be cool.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
