Cairo

Hello everyone. I am currently in Cairo whilst I wait for my Sudan visa. I'll probably be here for the next 10 days and then head for the Aswan ferry on the 18th October ish..

So, is anybody about? It would be good to meet some fellow overlanders for a tea or ..

Let us know!
James!

We're leaving tomorrow James !! We've been stuck here for ages too..

shame we're just gonna miss each other.

It looks like were going to be on the same ferry though. My advice is book it NOW !! You got Mr Salehs phone number and email ??

Hello, no I haven't got them. I didn't think it would be that busy from what i've read elsewhere, but I wouldn't want to miss another week so if you can supply I would be very grateful. Cheers Ted, Look out for my F650 a week monday then on the ferry! What are you riding..? And what fuel are you using? I notice 95ron is difficult to find...

Keep us informed if you can with any updates! Thanks
James

His email is: takourny(at)gmail.com

Email him NOW and book it as it fills up quick... We are booked on for the 18th (six bikes)

Were on a DRZ400, Dr650, 600 Transalp and we're running 90/92 with no problems.

You can buy octane booster in most of the petrol stations too if you're worried.

Hey buddy...

Thats a real pain. Even more so, you can get your sudan visa in aswan in 30 mins !! A few people there did only a few days ago. I dont know what the deal is there though.

Anyway, I arrived in wadi halfa yesterday and were still waiting for the barge.

The whole process in aswan is a bit of a nightmare to be honest...

Your FIRST step should be to go and see mr Saleh in Aswan on Friday or Saturday morning (after 9am) His office is one road back from the nile and the main strip "Corniche" ! Do you have Gps ??? The coordinates on the horizons threads are WRONG !! Its the "Blue nile ferry company" Its on Osm and t4a maps I think.

How many number plates do you have ?? You need TWO !! We had to have some made up in Aswan. I have coordinates of a workshop but not with me

On Saturday before the ferry, go to "The court" and wait 4-5 hours for you piece of paper to say you havnt commited any offences. check your details on the paper, they got ours mixed up and it took 3 hours to fix it. Get Mr Saleh to check it. Then you buy your ferry tickets from Mr Saleh in his office.. NOT AT THE PORT.

On the monday, take you plates to the traffic police. after the paperwork, you get convoyed to port to do immigration, and load the ferry. its pretty organised at the traffic police and from there on.

Email me and tedmagnum(at)tedmagnum.com if you want more info.

Hello Ted, thanks for the great update and information!!

Sounds like you lot had to load your bikes onto the towed barge then.. I was hoping to just put mine on the passenger ferry!

I know to be in Mr Saleh office early Saturday, i've been in touch with him.

I didn't know about needing 2 UK number plates! How odd.. if you could send me the gps coordinates for the workshop that would be good thanks.

It sounds a faff! My plan is to arrive in Aswan on Friday afternoon and try and work things out..!

What is your approx schedule for Sudan and getting to Ethiopia? It would be good to catch you all up perhaps! I'm thinking I would be in Sudan for around 10 days ish...

Good luck and thanks for the update!
James

Bikes

Alang,

Are you flying in or shipping, we flew our bikes in 2 months ago, right in
the middle of Ramadan, if you want send me a PM and I will give you the details of what you have to do and the right people to use.
It took us 6 days to get them but our man worked very hard and payed lots
of bribes and if he didn't we would still be there.
I must admit I would not ship or fly them to Egypt again I would send them to
Jordan or somewhere, but best of luck.

Cheers
Paul
