London to Tombuctoo Driver wanted

Hi

We are driving London to Timbuctoo in June arround 15th. We have only been back in London 2 months after spending 9 months driving West Africa and ending up in the Congo where we shipped our car back due to the problems in little Angola. Jason has driven the Sahara about 7 times now.
We then flew to Namiba, and then returned.
Our landcruiser (HJ60) has finally made it back from the Congo and we are readyish for the off (the car is at the mechanics). We have also bought another HJ60 and are looking for a driver, or crew. Our second car will only be going one way and will be sold in Timbucktoo.
We go for the adventure, this is not a charitable or religious based trip, we do enjoy beer and generally having an interesting time. Jay really quite likes off road desert driving, one or two beers often helping.
Just thouught I,d say we spent two months of our last trip with two bikers
on trials bikes, and we had a fantastic time with Orrin and Torsten.
If this interest you please contact us and meet us for a beer in London.

Timbuktoo

Hi,

I would say there is a good possibility that I can meet your requirement and you meet mine!
Perhaps if you can email me with your number I can call you for a chat or to arrange a beer or two!
I am adventurous and really enjoy travelling.
I have experience driving off road and reasonable mechanical knowledge.
I lived and worked in East Africa for a good few years and travelled a bit for work and adventure during that time.
I have not crossed the Sahara, although I have been carrying out research for my own trip which, now may not go ahead.
Please email me on:
ming125@hotmail.com
Regards
Matt.

hi,
sorry just off topic, wanna know is there a legal way to sell a vehicle in Mali (i guess, you go without a carnet)?
..and if yes, do you think you can obtain a good price for a motobike?

hello helmut,
selling your bike would not be a problem, don't use a carnet, buy a laissez passers at the border, when you sell,go to the customs with your buyer and have them deal with the import taxes,as to what bike and what price,i am not sure.
it is now possible to buy a brand new chinese 125cc for about 300 pounds apparently there is demand in bamako, for better marques but i haven't any more info.
kind regards and good luck!
jason

thx for the info jason.
so far as i understand, you want to sell your landcruiser there.
can you tell me what profit you can await? (and do you know how high the import tax in Mali is?)
would be great to finance such trip by selling the vehicle

I just left Mali a few days ago and had a number of people approach me asking if my bike (KTM 640 Adv) was for sale. It wasnt, but although I have no experience of actually selling a bike there, I think there is certainly a market.

As previously pointed out, there are plenty of Chinese 125s for sale (also branded KTM - I am amazed they havent been sued by the Austrians yet) however I didnt see many large bikes around.

A lot of car traders congregate around Auberge Djamilla in Bamako, and the French owner there could probably source some contacts for you.
