London to Nepal 2014
 

Hi everyone.

I'm Kim 29, from the UK and a boy (people often think I am either a girl or Korean because of name...)

Time to post my plans and see who else is going to be around at the same time (sounds like a few are).

Also I need to get my post count up so I can PM some people.

So the plan is
September - Europe & Turkey
October - Iran
November - Pakistan
November & December - India
January - Nepal

I would love to go through Burma or China and into Southeast Asia, I know this isn't feasible at the moment but you never know what will happen in a year and a half.

I am really looking to meet up with someone for the crossing into Pakistan and the run to Lahore. I haven't made my mind up 100% on Pakistan yet as things change so fast but if I do I think I will went to get through fairly quickly.

I'm doing the same trip but the other way round this year and you may want to set off a couple of months earlier, otherwise you might get very very wet!

That's interesting, I thought I had worked it out correctly. I even put all the average rainfall and average temps into a excel document...

edit: I think I have found my mistake, I had originally planed on leaving in July and having a month in Pakistan. This would put me in northern India for October just after the monsoon. Guess I need to leave a few months later rather than a few months early.

There was a thread on here about this by a Turkish lad (I think) who said that you need to be into turkey about April time, I'll try and find it, be aware that Pakistan has monsoons too, pretty spectacular ones by all accounts.


Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, it's happened to me a lot recently!
If I'm successful on my trip then ill be able to give you all the help I can.

April seams far too early and would mean I would hit the middle of the monsoon in India, but I guess it all dependents on how long you take to complete the trip.

The link below shows the average temperatures and rain fall for the countries on my route. The red is too hot or too wet and the blue is too cold. According to the table The best date for hitting Turkey is August or September.

Leaving in April would meaning hitting hot temperatures in Pakistan and hitting the monsoon in both India and Nepal. Going later on in the year should mean missing the rain and cooler temperatures.

Agreed, head off later rather than sooner, you will get some nice European sun on the way down too

hi my names simon im 36 from oxford its a route i have been considering.can i fire some questions at you... have you done much traveling before? have you any experience of Pakistan? did you say yourll be traveling through iran?am i right in thinking you need a Carnet for Iran,i know you need one for pakistan and india?

I consider myself to be fairly well travelled however I am relatively new to adventure motorcycling. My biggest trip to date was travelling overland from London to Thailand by train and bus in 2008. Traveling through Europe, Russia, Siberia, Mongolia, China, Vietnam, Lao, Cambodia & Thailand. On that trip I did about 3 weeks through Lao & Thailand by 250cc dirt bike and scouter. That really gave me the bug and I got my motorcycle licence when I got home to the UK.
I am still undecided on Pakistan. While part of me really wants to go, I would love to see the country and I would kind of feel like I cheated myself if I got the boat around however I am not sure if I can put my mum through the worry or am happy taking the risk myself. Things change so fast I have decided to leave both options open for now and will review closer to the time and then again on the road.
I haven’t got my notes on me at the moment but I believe a carnet is required for Iran, Pakistan, India & Nepal. If I am wrong I will post back later.

Hi Kim,

I'm planning a trip for 2014 which will bring me to Greece and Turkey, coming from Italy by boat, around that time too, i.e. August/September. But after Turkey I will turn around and head back via the Balkan. Maybe see you on the road :mchappy:

I was planning a similar trip but starting in spring 2014.
I didn't think about the monsoon, so I have to check this out and take in to consideration.
Anyone knows a good site where i can get these information?
