I live in Estonia.

By all accounts it seems that the South of Poland is a bit more varied, in terrain, scenery and towns...

Those that I know hwo have travelled the North; Germany to Lithaunia, said that it was quite a dull route. Bad roads, and low speed limits.

Lithuania: I only know Kaunas: went there for work. A nice town with a pleasant old town. Can't offer more info there.

Latvia: the North coast: Kolka to Riga: beautiful. 172km of white sandy beach. Riga: a nice city: pretty centre.

Estonia: tell me what you enjoy and perhaps I can suggest things.

It has been too many years (1991) since I was in that area of the world but I do remember Vilnius Lithuania as a wonderful place.

I must get back there some day before "I kick the bucket"

Hello Weaklinks!

I rode the area in August 2009 and I enjoyed my visit to the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania right past Siauliai, on the way to Riga.
It's a short stop on the road (I stood there about 45 min.), but worthy due to its spiritual meaning to Lithuanian people.

Hey Warthog--interested in a or cup of coffee in a few days from now? Always nice to talk to people from the area. Any suggestions on a place to stay in Tallin? What I like--hmmm--might get barred from the hubb if I put all that in print!! Just some interesting conversation, varied views on things, and scenery will do most the time tho

Entering Lithuania tomorrow morning. Yes found the northern route a little boring--but hey--just part of the journey I guess

Thanks to all who posted--and to anyone else that still might.

Pegleg--Will update you with one mans view when trip is over.

Thanks again
Mark

Wink Beer in Tallinn

I'm around from now till the 20th June, then back between the 27th and 7th July.

PM me if you want. If I'm around I'd happily take you for a tour of the city/area.

Tallinn is most famous for its very well preserved medieval old town.

SOme of the other towns also have their charms (Pärnu, Haapsalu, Tartu etc), others less so!! What Estonia does have is a low population density and nice areas of natural environments: lots of nature reserves and coast line. Wild camping is permitted and the RMK (Forestry Comission) sites are often nicely located, with an outhouse and fire wood supplied. Just pack mozzy-repelant.

Estonia also has lovely islands. Saaremaa, Hiiumaa and Muhu are the largest, but hop on a ferry to "sidecar" island, Kihnu, where all the grannies tear around on old Saturn 500s with hacks!! Vormsi is small but not so touristy. Pitching on any westerly or north-westerly patch of shoreline on the 3697km of coastline will give you picture-postcard sunsets to go with you modest campfire (mind those forest fires!!).

Safe riding.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
