L.A. to Argentina departing February 2011

Hi everyone,
I will be heading from LA to Argentina in Feb of 2011. I am very flexible concerning the route and don't have to be anywhere at any particular time as I have taken two years off work to travel.

I will be shipping a 2010 Tenere 660 to California LA and at this point I will be going solo, but happy to have company.
I am a 28 year old Australian, who is very laid back and easy to get along with. Looking forward to hearing from like minded people.

Ok, so it looks like a change of plans could be on the wind. I have been able to arrange to finish up with work earlier than I thought so I can now leave at the start of January instead of Feb.
It has also been suggested by a friend that has done a similar trip that I should look at starting in Santiago, Chile instead.
Like I said I am very flexible with my route and schedule so if anybody else has similar ideas, it would be good to hear from you.

Cheers!

Sounds interesting..I will be travelling from the Vancouver area in Jan 2011 through California, Baja and Mexico and then to Guat. Plannd to stop off somewhere in \mexico for a week of Spanish School..m\ybe in Baja. I am 55 yo Canadian and taking a leave from the working world for at least 4-5 months..I have a Dakar and am travelling solo at this point. Thoughts?

Hi Kevin,
Good to hear from you about your travel plans, sounds like you have had enough of work aswell. At this stage I am thinking about getting to L.A on about the 15th of January, I will then have to get my bike sorted which hopefully won't take to long. I haven't had any experience with Customs in the US, maybe you could shed some light on how long you think this will take to get my bike released.
Once that is out of the way my only plan so far is to head south. Like I already said I am very flexible about route and schedule, I do like your idea about doing some Spanish lessons in Mexico somewhere as I had similar thoughts aswell.
I have no particular preference for accomodation and am just as happy camping or staying in a motel/hotel/hostel.
I am competent rider both on and off road and would probably like to mix the trip up with a bit of both, what are your thoughts on this?

Regards,
Charlie

Just wondering did you ship from Perth? If so wondering what the cost was.
Cheers

I haven't shipped yet, I will be shipping at the end of November. I have been quoted $1,300.00 by freight forwarders in Fremantle.

might see you on the road mate, I'll be in Mexico for a couple of months if your still coming from LA

alpiner84 21 Oct 2010 04:58

Hi Charlie. It sounds like I'll be on the road about a month after you. I'm leaving from New Mexico at the end of February/early March for five months of travel on my bike. Planning on going south to Panama or as far as I make it before time runs out :-) Maybe we'll run into each other! Sounds like there are a fair few people traveling through. Have fun!
Sarah
PS: My bike is the little sister of yours, and I was on [the back of] a Tenere in Africa a few years ago

Hammer1 28 Oct 2010 18:22

Hi Sarah,
I will be spending a bit of time in Mexico as I slowly wander south,
so If we cross paths it would be great to meet up. Keep us updated as to where you are during your trip and I will do the same. If we don't cross paths in Mexico , maybe somewhere else. Good luck and stay safe!!!

Costa Rica pit stop.

If your looking for a pit stop. Playa Del Coco, Costa Rica. About 2 hours after Nigcaragua. If I have on guest you can stay at my place on the beach free. We have a repair and maintenance shop at hand if needed. Can help you with some different routes. No rain at all that time of the year in Coco. :palm:

Have A Safe Ride,

Chris

Thanks for the offer Chris, very generous of you. I am sitting behind my desk at work bored out of my mind imagining that I am already in Costa Rica.

Hi Eliza,
It seems that there is plenty of people heading the same way as us or at least a similar direction.
Keep us up to date with where you are and perhaps our paths will cross and we can catch up and share some travel stories and perhaps ride together for a while.
Happy travels and keep safe!

Charlie
