KKH into China May/June 2011?

We are on two motorbikes and thinking of doing this route. We already have our Pakistan visas and have been in contact with Newland Travel who have given us some reasonable prices. But the more people we have, the cheaper it gets. Is anyone interested in joining us?

visa for china

Hi there,
i am definitely interested in a visa for china, just one question is it a group visa and everybody must enter at the same date from the same point or is it a kind of discount for multi-visas and so everybody get his/her visa and can use it whenever s/he wants?
ciao

Newland Travel do not provide the China visa. They will supply a letter of introduction so that you can get your own visa, and this cost US$100 per person.

It is not the cost of the visa that is shared, you have to organise that yourself separately. It is the cost of the guide which is needed to travel through China if using your own transport.

The costs we have been given are US$2,200 for two bikes travelling in China for 4 days only. If a third bike joins the cost of the guide is shared between 3 rather than two and the cost per person reduces by a few hundred (all a bit vague). This price also includes accommodation.

We are planning to be at the top of the KKH on 18 May and will meet the guide at the border on this day. We will then travel through China for 4 days and then into Kyrgyzstan and onwards to Europe. We will not be returning.

Hi Kate and Will,

We are 3 french people doing a long road trip this summer from India to Paris, via Pakistan, China and Khirgizistan, but 2 months later than your trip... We plan to arrive at the Pakistani-Chinese border between the 21st of August and the 30th of August. We will then need a guide from Pundjerab pass up to the Khirgiz-Chinese border, as asked by the chinese authorities. We have received the following quote from a travel agent (nature_lunwang):

If the 3 motorcycles and stay in China 5 days the cost is: 1300 USD

The cost in detail is as following:

1 Permit for enter China: 50 USD

2 license plates: 30 USD *3 motorcycles = 90 USD

3 Insurance for the guest: 10 USD p/p *3= 30 USD

4 Insurance for the third person: 40 USD *3 / motorcycles = 120 USD

5 Fee for the Customs: Khoqirap Pass: 200 USD for three motorcycles

Turgart pass: 200 USD for three cycles

6 Driving License: 20 USD *3= 60 USD

7 Service for the guide: 80 USD a day * 5 days= 400 USD

8 Trance for the guide: 150 USD. ( Kashgar –Khonqirap Pass and Kashgar- Irkeshitan pass).

This quote is very interesting because its a lot cheaper than the other ones we have received, and it details the costs. Could you help us a bit with the details? For instance the customs fee seems huge, and I don't know what "Trance for the guide" means...

Furthermore, is there anyone willing to join us on this tour, to try and reduce the fixed costs? Would you (Kate and Will) be ok to delay your trip by 2 months?

Thanks a lot,
Best regards,

Samuel

Hi Samuel

Thanks for the info, your quote looks interesting.... We cannot delay our trip sorry. I think "trance for guide" is actually "transport for guide" What you reckon???

Best of luck with it!
