June: MN to Alberta/BC, August: MN to SA

I'm going to be riding from MN to the Banff area just after memorial day. Any one interested in joining for some riding and/or mountaineering? I'm finishing the trip on the 29th of June in the Wind River range in WY for a fundraiser climb of Gannett Peak.

Any MC friendly yards to camp in in MN, SD, ND, WY, MT, ID, UT, ON, MB, SK, AB, BC?

I lived in Ecuador last year and got into riding to mountains, then climbing them. I'll be heading back to SA in late August with some friends to do more of that. I'd love to meet up with other riders/climbers along the way.

I ride light, cheap, and dirty. No freeways, no hotels (at least not north of Guatemala), no stinking cell phone. Prefer to ride with those of similar philosphy, but an 800lb BMW and a Super 8 is still better than a cage any day!

Climbing

Hey Nate,

If you make it to Vancouver, there is a yard here that can accomodate smelly climbers/bikers but to be honest there are much better spots to bivy in the vicinity that I would be happy to lead you to.

Are you leaning toward rock routes or snow and ice? As you may know, there's a lot to chose from so if you need some guide books or recommendations let me know. And depending on the weekend, also up for some climbs.

Certainly would appreciate the advice on climbing locations. I'm looking at alpine style, fast 'n light, little gear stuff. I'd prefer less technical stuff that requires fewer gadgets.

Not sure if I'll get all the way to Vancouver, but it was a thought. I appreciate the offer and I'll keep it in mind.

It'd be cool if we can attract a few more flys and all converge on the same place, same time, and get a few good rides and climbs in. When and where were you thinking about heading?

Got a backyard with TeePee and some interesting limestone vertical.

Nate,
When will you reach Ecuador?

I'll be in Asia (stans/china/tibet/nepal) from May Through Nov, but then I am planning to head to the Andes, bike in tow. I'll have full trekking gear, but wasn't palnning on plastic boots or crampons. I'll likely fly to Lima in early dec..

I prefer to camp if at all possible when I travel. I climb slow & steady, and prefer non technical stuff. Maybe we can climb Cotopaxi or something. I'm heading all the way down to Tierra del Fuego.

Send me and eMail or PM with your timing.

MI to SA in late August

Hello Nate,

I am also planning a trip to SA in late August. I just graduated from the University of Michigan and I plan to travel for a year. I totally live by your same philosophy; that is, I am dead broke. I have also considered backpacking through Mexico and Central America and shipping my bike to Quito and continue from there. How is your trip panning out?

Cheers!
Victor

I am also a fellow climber - PS. I grew up in Golden, British Columbia. So, I can also offer some good advice for you out in the Canadian Rockies.
