Jumping the Swamp

Hey biker types! I'm shipping my 1150GSA via Girag at 3pm today from Panama City to Bogota, Colombia. I'll be following it tomorrow (allegedly). Just wondering if anyone is in PC today or gonna be in Bogota in the next couple of days to hook up for a cervasa? From there I'm heading to Medellin for a new rear tire and some fun.

Hi thumper,

I will be following you in a couple weeks. I have a R100GS...will also need a new tire in Colombia. Who you getting your tire from in Medellin? And is Medellin a better place to have fun than Bogota?

Cheers
Larry

Hey Larry,

I'm in Medellin now and have been for 4 days. What a great place! I only spent one night in Bogota so I can't really comment on a comparison between the two. I bought a rear tire at Ruta 40 on Saturday. There's a bunch of good guys working there. Almost no english spoken but I showed up, told them what I needed, they rolled my bike right in and in less than an hour I was on my way. Price-wise there could be a cheaper place but I didn't check into it as I wanted to stop in to say I was at Ruta 40 anyway. There's tons of other bike shops in Medellin to choose from. I'm here til after the new year so if you make it up here let me know!

Cargo Companies

Kevin & Larry

Mike C. and I are in Panama City and will be heading to the airport today to arrange for bike shipping. Since you have so recently done this any last minute tips? We understand there are only certain days a carrier will fly bikes out.

Also somewhere I read of a possible third company flying bikes to Colombia besides Girag and Copa. Did you know of it and/or check it out?
We appreciate any help you can send our way and we hope to catch up to you
John

Hey guys!

I used Girag as Copa says they are not shipping bikes into Colombia at all until sometime in the new year. It's pretty straightforward on the Panama end, some running around on the Colombia end. If you guys have some Espanol it'll make it much easier. I was lucky enough to hook up with a girl at the Bogota airport who worked for a local hotel. She spoke very good english and made the process much easier. I actually have her name and number if you think you might need her. She's familiar with the process now anyway. Just let me know.
When I tried to fly myself over both Copa and Avianca told me they had no flights for 4 days (it was just before Christmas and standby didn't occur to me) so I wasted a day before I got on a standby flight. Standby is your friend!! Best of luck guys! Hopefully see you when you get here.

Stephane in Bogota

Hey Larry,

I don't have an email for Stephane, just her phone number. 313-436-3670 If you decide to call her say hi for me. Let me know how you make out. When are you planning to cross? This is my last night in Medellin (I figure if I don't leave now I never will!!). I'm heading for Cali and The Casa Blanca.
