July 2012 UK visit (or from Argiesland to Stonehenge and something more…)

Closer to make a dream come true…
Last year we pop up with the dream of a short travel trough UK, give back visits to old friends and maybe attend to the HU-Meeting but things made us put in standby that dream.
Now dream is back and hopefully this time will happen.
As we post that time bike isn’t a problem we have some offers if we can solve the insurance. And of course many offer of places to stay.
This time the post is to know who will be around, tell you that we really would like to see you, and visit that place we hear so many great stories about.
Any advice will be more than welcome, UK bike insurance for a foreigner rider, places must be visited, roads....anything you think we should know.
This time things will be in the opposite, we will be the guest and you the host.
Hasta pronto...

Thumbs up good news

Hola Sandra and Javier,

this is very good news. I wont be in the UK to welcome you, but who knows.

I cant help with the bike insurance question, but there has to be a way ...

As you know, I am not British but I have been on this small islands a couple of times ... advise ... the first thing that comes to my mind is that there are more cctv cameras than one can imagine ... so maybe take an argentine number plate for your bike ;-) or adjust your riding style ...

pub lunches are good value, the breakfast is the worst on the planet, drink your tea with milk, supermarkets (I dont like Tescos) offer special discounts just before closing time, take your rain gear even in July, I liked the Lake District, Cornwall and Brighton and Bath (to walk around for half a day). I hope you are not in London for the Olympics - I am sure it is not good to visit at this time ...

ok, this is it for the moment, we will meet before you leave.

Saludos de Samaipata Bolivia
Mika

Hampshire

We are travelling until 2014 but our home town is Andover in Hampshire - 14 miles east of Stone henge. Andover has a nice camp ground with a pub next door. If you need help in the area we cant sort it out for you. Our son works for an insurance company - PM your email address and I will pass it on.

Hola Javier and Sandra

We'll be home from the second half of July - that is, mid July onwards. If you want to head-on down to the far south-west (Cornwall) after visiting Stonehenge, then we're about 175 miles or 280 km (3½ - 4 hours) down the road from there.

You would, of course, be most welcome to stopover with us for a few days if you like.

Send me a PM or email anytime.

All the best

KEITH [& ELLEN]

House is currently fuller than your garage, but if needed we can change our lounge into a mini bedroom.

Otherwise just shout when passing Liverpool (St Helens, J23 off the M6)

Hi, I live close to Accrington, Lancashire about 3 miles off junction 7 off the M65.My wife & I can put you up most weekends or school holidays. We have a small spare room that two can sleep in. I am sure we could make garage room and help with servicing as I have a reasonable tool selection. I will be at the Horizon meeting in Ireland at the end of June and then the meeting at Lumb Farm the following weekend. If you make it to any of them come and say hello as I will be presenting “But I Only Have Two Weeks”

Hi Javier and Sandra

Glad you are coming to the UK - July / August I am working on the Olympics - but if you are anywhere near Gatwick in Surrey (South East England) and need any help with anything - give me a shout - you are MOST welcome!

Devitt are good for bike insurance - and yes - rain gear essential (this IS the UK, after all!) - but breakfasts not as bad as mentioned! South West very nice riding, as is Lake District and Scotland and Wales too - loads to choose from!

Good luck with the trip!

Wales is a must

Hi guys

happy to help when you are in UK. I have a sofabed and a garage in Chatham, not far from London or Canterbury. Feel free to use

I lived 13 years in North Wales, and I highly recommend Wales for some great riding, scenery and activities off the bike.

Have a nice trip

Sam

Hiya,

We're based near Cambridge. We've got a spare room available and a reasonably equipped workshop if the bike needs anything done to it. I'm useless at forward planning so if you want to crash here give me a shout nearer the time and we'll make a plan.

Cheers,
Roadcat

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
