Is there anybody out there ?

hey ı got 2 replıes from my waıtıng ın ıstanbul thread - have ı pıcked the wrong country or tıme of year? Im sure ı heard that there ıs a "bıg" communıty of adventure motorcylısts on the road. Where are they- no doubt ıve been ın the wrong place at the wrong tıme but ıve been through 10 countrıes ın 3 months and ı havnt seen one yet - that ıncludes 60 campsıtes. I went to the rally at rıpley last year whıch was excellent and met loads of people wıth lots of good advıse and planned trıps. Hey ım not that desperate for company but ım sure there must be others on the road.

Be ınterestıng to see wont ıt...............................

Surely these storıes of planned adventure cant be all pub talk- can they

or maybe ıts the transalp!

Not suprised

Greetings Andy,

I'm not suprised that you have not seen anyone. At Ripley this year there were about 450 of us. Now the land area of the world, not counting Antartica, is about 52,000,000 square miles. So if everyone went off within a couple of months, that'd be 1 every 115,266 square miles or 1 standing in a square 10,000 miles across each way.:smartass:

Did you look hard enough:eek3:

I'm off next year, (see post one up from yours) so if you're still roaming around we may meet, then again we may not.:biggrin3:

I wonder how many miles of roads there are in the world, also after the AWT on the bike, has anyone done it on horseback? 'spect a vet is more expensive than a hammer and a couple of bolts

Happy Trails

Hey Andy,
I'm sure if you start following the regional forums you should be able to find
out where some other riders are...or where they plan to be.

In Latin America there is a clear "Gringo Trail". Anywhere along this trail you tend to find many RTW riders and foriegners in general, all travelling and stopping at certain "gathering points" along the way.

I can stand on the side of the road in certain places in Mexico and in just 5 or 6 hours see two or three loaded up bikes pass by. Some of short trips, some on long ones.

I'm sure the route out to the middle east, Africa and Asia has these same
"gathering points" for RTW folks. I don't really know your part of the world and
have never been to Turkey. Is there some reason riders are avoiding this area
other than two major wars going on within a few hundred miles? :innocent:

Watch out for those speed traps in Turkey....I hear they are brutal. Two friends rented bikes there a couple years ago and explored the whole country
for 5 weeks. Lots of traffic fines was the only negative.

Good luck, stay safe!

ta for the feedback

ta to molly / stag / marco for your comments.

ı basıcally know jack shıt about thıs travellıng and ıts my 1st trıp but ım just sayıng what ı see. ı thınk molly has got a good poınt about the unrest ın the area as ı read ın todays paper about normal holıday types changıng to europeon locatıons and turkey has not had the expected amount of tourısts.

Ta for the statıstıcs stag but ı was not referıng to rıply rally goers not beıng on the road, ıt was adventure motorcycles ın general- ı found the rally good fun, ınspıratıonal and ınformatıve.

Marco - mıght catch up wıth u ın pakıstan

hey ı mıght chıll a bıt once ı get the vısas and hıt the road

From Ionia

Hi Andy;

I know several HUBB members are in Turkey now and some are to arrive very soon. We had a very nice time with Ramon from Barcelona (riding a Transalp) and I will also say goodbye to him before he leaves. Then will arrive some other friends from many parts of the world.

At least I'm (not in Ankara or Istanbul but) in Izmir and I can share some beers and riding in and around this beautiful western Anatolia to change your opinions in a positive way.

Just send a PM.

Regards

Can Ozcan
