Iran - Pak - India route

In March we will embark upon our 2up trip from the Netherlands to South-East Asia, the overland way (incl. Tibet - Laos route at the beginning of July).

We are curious to know if there any other travelers that have granted visa for Iran and Pakistan and that would like to join a part of this trip together? We planned to arrive at the Iran border at the beginning of April.

R. and L.

Gday,
Im leaving London in April heading the same route and will be crossing into China beginning of July doing the Nepal-Zhangmu-
Mohan-Laos (through tibet upto to xining, xian) was interested to know what tour company you are going with through china... Im doing Navo tour, and currently negotiating exact date, as I will be travelling with another group on motorcycles....

checking if you are that group haha

thanks

hellcoder 27 Feb 2012 19:20

hey there,

i'm going a similar route (Iran->Pakistan->India->Nepal->Pakistan->KKH->North...) but i will leave from munich mid april.

Have you got your visas already?
I'm still waiting for my iranian auth code and the pakistan embassy is still "thinking" about my wish to get a double entry visa.

I would be interested in joining your group to lao (especially because i lived in luang namtha for quite some time, it's just a few km after the Chinese border where you will enter), but it's a bit too early for me and i really want to do mongolia.

cheers
Moritz

Andrew White 27 Feb 2012 22:34

Hi Moritz,
Havent got the visa's yet. Ive been stalling mainly because its valid from date of issue, so didnt want to get it too far in advance... But have just submitted the application form with Iran Visa Service Iranian Embassy Iranian consulate London for the iranian visa...

Been told by my main contact (main source of info thus far) that the pakistani visa can me issued from the embassy in London, same day. Just head in there with all your papers. Ill be applying for a single entry visa. Hopefully a little simpler.

Not sure how you could do both mongolia and tibet in the same tour (although with enough money anything is poss i suppose). Worth giving NAVO or someone similar a try... fyi organising china you need atleast 3 months in advance to organise everything..If you would like to get in on the group that im in, the more the merrier. Would be great and certainly cheaper....

Lastly when were you thinking of doing your Iran and Pakistan crossings. Im aiming for end of may/start of june crossing into Iran from Turkey....Would be good to cross with others. If our timings are right we should link up....

Cheers

Hi Andrew, what a coincident. We are doing the very same thing here. Our Navo Tours tour will be from July 2 (as far as we know). There seems to be an Australian 4wd listed already and I didn't know of any more bikers till this message ;-)

For the rest of the trip, we have the Iran code, ready for picking up visas in Istanbul. India is down as well, only Pakistan visa to go.

It would be great to meet somewhere in Iran to do some of the trip together?

Andrew White 28 Feb 2012 10:54

bajatwin,

haha great stuff... Yeh im the 4wd australian btw (haha i like that nickname)....im going through getting my carnet now....going with magic carpet for the iranian visa... and got pakistan visa left to do....

my timeline looks like:

Leaving London end of April (europe and turkey 4 weeks)
Crossing into Iran end of may (iran/pakistan 1.5-2 weeks)
Crossing into India mid June (2-3 weeks india)
Early July Nepal/China crossing with NAVO

Does the any of the iranian/pakistani crossings fit with your timeline??

Thanks

Planning planning planning

Hi Andrew, thanks; it's the name of our motorbike, a big Baja headlight and the rest is Honda Africa Twin. But this is maybe a bit unknown territory for you as you are driving a Mitsubishi ;-D

I suppose we will be a month ahead of you. We will not be quick 2up but unless we break down along the , it will be hard to beat us before India ;-)

Are you driving all the way by yourself or...?

Thank you for your kind invite! I do actually wonder where best to get tyres in Istanbul? I like to change my rear Mefo Explorer 99 tyre. For the same make or else Heidenau.

1-We know the roads you will be on up to Nepal.Higly recommend Metzeller for your destination even other brands are also available in Turkey which can also be sent to the Turkish border gate to İran,Doğubeyazıt.Our member runs Hotel Ararat there.
Cargo cost you will pay to the courrier comp.is about 50 TL.So you dont have to carry more luggage.(2 tyres)You will also need a good quality chain spray.

Pakistan

Hi Omar

I am only a week away from Amritsar. Have had a great time in Nepal & India and looking forward to the next stage - Pakistan. Would love to meet up with some of your club members. Are you in Lahore? I'll be heading there to arrange my visa for Iran.

I'm travelling a bit slower than most and you'll see why on my blog Old Bloke on a Bike | Travels of an old guy on an old bike, from one side of the world to the other I look forward to meeting up.

Caio, Ron

Omie 29 Feb 2012 15:22

Hi Ron,
Yes I am based in Lahore. Fortunately there is an Iranian consulate here that issues visas so you can get it here.
I went to your blog and found it fascinating. Would love to host you and your lovely bike here.

BTW who told you that you are an old bloke? might be having a weak eyesight, you looked youthful and energetic to me.

Have a nice trip.

Cheers

Omar
