I was just wondering where you've got to. We saw Oeyvind in Lahore a couple of days ago, and he tells me you're planning to hook up for the return trip. Bernard and I are hoping to attempt the Iranian border later this week - currently in Quetta (without carnet!), so with luck we'll be heading into Iran after that. Let's keep in touch and meet up if our paths cross.

Due to some religious ceremonies everywhere was closed for two days, including today, and therefore it seems that i will be here until 20th.

The planned route is : Takab-Hamedan-Ahvaz- Shiraz -Bam .. but who knows how it works out

Definetly trying to hook with Oeyvind on the way return and maybe for KKH.

Dont worry about your passport Jasong. This is a very very safe place. Even for you. You will be amazed for the hospitality to all foreigners.

Take Care ,

Hello travlers

Made it to Tabriz yesterday.

Question:
My Pakistan visa expired 2 days ago. Can I get a tranist pass issued at the border or do I need to see the consulat in Tehran?

Other overlanders in Iran, please post
a where abouts, would like to meet up with other travelers.

-jasong

The roads in south-eastern Turkey, (from Bilits) south to Van are close to tourist. The army turned me around twice! To save time and the hassles of being turned around...pick more central routes.

Just so happens I'm in Tabriz now too. It would be great to exchange our experiences of Turkey & Iran, but I'm planning to leave for Bazargan tomorrow morning. I doubt you'll be checking this again today, so maybe we'll miss each other.

Just in case, I'm staying in the Ramsar hotel (about 50m east along Emam Khomeini from Fasr square). I'll keep an eye out for you tonight - haven't seen any other foreigners here. I'm planning to eat in Ali Baba's on Emam Khom this evening.

I heard that about the roads to Van. I don't have firm information about Pakistan, but I very strongly suspect that you won't get a transit visa at the border.

Hope to see you,

James

Roads to Van, Turkey
====================

I noticed that Jason's advice above about the roads to Van being closed, has just been circulated in this month's ezine, so I thought I'd better point out that this is out of date. They are all now open!

I went about two weeks ago, on a return trip from Dogubayazit (sadly not by bike since my Enfield has died), and had no problems getting through the check points. No other foreigners there at the time, as I was told is still the case by a couple of Germans who had taken the Tatvan-Van ferry a few days ago. Van Castle and the Lake are great, so go there if you're in the area!
