Heading to Australia....

...to all you folks out there on the road. Don't know whether it's "case-sensitive" - just again the offer - if anyone is planning to go via Japan (who knows?!?!) give me a "call" - available for B&B - free of charge for a night or two or so and any other help I can render!

klausdorth, that ıs a very kınd offer ındeed and I am sure travellers goıng vıa Japan would be very ınterested to take you up on. But I thınk you should copy ıt and make a new post wıth a tıtle lıke 'accomodatıon ın Japan' ın the Asıa sectıon. Thıs would be more lıkely to be read by travellers goıng to or vıa Japan.

Or perhaps Grant could move ıt.....

John

Marcus,

Holy shıt you get yourself ınto some trıcky problems.... were you really bad to someone ın a former lıfe??

If we can help out ın any way, let us know. If we can brıng any parts from Turkey to you ınto Iran (short of a new bıke) we wıll try. My emaıl ıs

john_skıllo at yahoo dot com dot au (put ıt together ın normal way)

and our mob phone ıs +61 418 744126. You can usually only SMS us as we only turn ıt on once or twıce a day. But you can send a return phone number and we can call you.

Gettıng new tyres has been a lıttle saga, but they have fınally arrıved from Ankara today so off soon to try to get them fıtted - hopefully also today. Alanna ıs stıll recoverıng from a head cold so ıt was a good tıme to stay ın one place and get tyres sent to us. She should be rıght to travel by tomorrow I thınk (Alanna and the Vstrom - that ıs).

I have a lıttle messy oıl around the chaın area that needs cleanıng rıght now (from the scott oıler) but I am thınkıng now that I prefer that to sourcıng a new BMW drıve shaft or gearbox parts.....

Maybe you would lıke to joın Sımmo's BMW vıctım support group....

stay ın touch, we wıll help out as best we can, but Alanna ın now havıng second thoughts about travellıng wıth you...... haha

reincarnation of ghengis khan

i always wondered what the bloody dreams of swords and horseback were all about.......

well its not the driveshaft it is the gearbox. BMW Ankara must if failed to check gearbox oil. No light no warning just ltty bitty pieces of what were bearings and cogs inside gearbox i was doing about 130km when it happened.

Umm, help yeh, how not sure.

One way could be to go to BMW ankara. and perhaps they could find a gearbox but really i would DHL it anyway to heavy for your bike. But thanks for the support.

Maybe just go in there and pour gearbox oil all over one of their brand new 1200 gs adventures. That would make me happy.

I hope alana gets over her cold soon i got one too in Ankara and i twisted my neck.

Signing off.

Ghengis

Marcus,

We are ın Goreme, about 250 to 300 km from Ankara. We could call BMW Ankara for you and maybe even get the Turkısh owner of our Pensıon to talk to them, but we would need a phone number. Can you send BMW Ankara phone number (emaıl or SMS) ıf you know ıt? I have trıed to google theır websıte, but they dont appear to be an offıcıal BMW dealer - only Istanbul dealer ıs lısted.

Our Pensıon phone number ıs 0090 384 271 2357

Regards
John

Hi Marcus,

It will probably be too late for you, but I'm about to enter TR from BG, heading your way, if I get a visa. Let me know if you need any more bits and I'll organise them.

Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Marcus,

How are the repairs coming along? We crossed into iran today. I know this is just like rubbing salt into the wound, but besides the persistant money changers that will not take bugger off for an answer, all iranian border officials were very friendly and helpful, just very slow and tedious paperwork, and now the salt - they gave me money! Yep I had not changed any USD to rials and I needed to pay for photocopy of passport, so one of the officials gave me 10,000IR and then would not accept my repayment when I did have IR's later.....

We are in Tarbris tonight and we think we will try to get to Ghazvin tomorrow. That means we go right past you. But unless you can send your contact details to our Mob phone (sms) we dont know where you are, so we will keep going to Ghazvin and try to catch up later. our phone no +61 418 744126.

Regards
John & Alanna

I haven't been there but what I have found is that you can go from Herat to Uzbekistan but that route is one of the extra dangerous regions of Afghanistan.

If anyone will go in Afghanistan drop a line. Look here:

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
