Indien-Pakistan- Iran, KKH sidetrip July 2013

Hi,

Planing to enter Pakistan from India beginning of July 2013. Drive my sidecar up the Karakorum HWY, turn around and leave Pakistan via Iran end of July.
Anybody in the area at the time?

Greetings Heiko

I would be very interested to hear how your trip goes, as I dream that that is the way I will tackle the China issue, 1 year from now

I have no idea but I presume the Pakistan authorities will let you turn around at the Chinese boarder?

Did you see the thread here somewhere? not sure what nationality he was but Pakistan would not let him in solo, so he had to wait for a group before crossing to Iran.

Best wishes Shane

You need a permit to go all the way up to the pakistan borderpost. Heard from bikers who left ther pasport there and was allowed to continued to the pass and turned around there, but that was years ago...

Anyway would be more save and fun to cross Belutschistan wit other overlanders...

I was there some years ago. No need to leave a passport as the Chinese wont let you in without a visa and guide.
You have to pay a small fee to go to the border as it in the Khunjerap National Park. There is a border post before you get the the actual dividing line and the Chinese post is a kilometre or so down the other side so you can ride up for photos. Pick a nice day or you will be in the clouds:mchappy:
The bike is in China in this picture.

Hi,
To reach Fairy Meadows you have to drive till Raikot bridge on the KKH. This is the 3rd and last bridge on River Indus. You can reach here through Babusar route too which is more picturesque with cooler weather.

Right there you will find a hotel called Shangrilla and an unpaved road on your right going to Fairy Meadows which is 15kms away.
Climb is tough and bikes can reach village Tatu on the way. You'll have to walk the rest of the way.

It is tough but certainly worth it.
Make sure you spend a night on the base camp of Nanga Parbat too.

You can contact a satellite club of MAP (Motorcyclists Assoc of Pak) as mentioned by Fern, going to KKH on the following address,

http://www.facebook.com/groups/2wheelsAdventure/

I will be heading on the 10th of August.
Have a nice and safe journey
Cheers
Omar
