India in March/April 2013

Hallo,

I am planning to go to India in March or April 2013 for around 5 weeks and want to make a motorbike tour for at least 2 weeks or longer.
At the moment I am still not sure where to go, because many places sound so interesting and are open for advice and ideas.

I love independent travel to remote areas and also have some offroad experience.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Hi, are you thinking of North or South India? I've rode parts of the South. I'm planning to head North from Goa after Feb but this will be the first time in the North for me

Hi Fugitive,
i have not decided yet where in India exactly I want to go. the country is so huge and there are so many things to see....
Anyway, I really would be interested to make a tour, North from Goa, where exactly do you want to go?

Hi bik3rgirl
Not really got much of a plan yet. Heading to Goa for new year and be lazy for 6 weeks or til end of Feb, then a slow ride to Mumbai maybe taking 2 days just staying on the coast. Going to plan Mumbai to Delhi, Nepal, Rajasthan while being lazy in Goa, then heading back down to Goa in May. Will be riding 2 up with my girlfriend, she also rides but we will be on one bike. All we know is the Taj Mahal, lots of Rajasthan will be visited with a possible vist to Nepal.

India is great for a bike trip. Goa is a good practice ground and good to meet people you can rent an enfield for a fiver a day and explore we spent a month around Kerala on bikes rented in Cochin and did a circle tour up in the cardoman hills ( bring a jumper) alleppy mummar Hampi all good and lots of two wheeler repair shops ( enfields!!) to keep you moving for cheap. Kerala is defo good in the few months after new year. Too cold up north still . The people are very helpful and hospitable ( too much sometimes) you have to be patient and not plan too much The roads are mad but great fun make sure your horn works, and pray And you can live on the clippings of tin if you want ( I don't) also chennai Pondicherry andamans are brilliant. I will try the Himalayas soon But for now I'm staying around Venezuela Happy christmas

@ Biker3girl

Apart from the hectic Indian traffic, its nice to have a real feel of India on 2 wheels. I rode across india 12K kilometers in 2010. I would be really happy to plan your routes. All the tourist attractions in India are too much crowded. But there are lots of other places not touched by the tourists. less traffic and much fun to see the rural India. I would suggest to go for a royal Enfield bullet. Its reliable for indian standards.

I am now living in zurich. but miss my enfields too much.

Prem
