India - Bangalore to Goa

I'm looking at a two week ish trip to Goa later this year. I have a deal on airfares which means it would be cheaper for 2, so that could work if someone else had similar plans. The route looks great and it seems that bike hire shouldn't be too tough. Few days riding down, spend week in Goa, come back. I have a friend in Goa at the moment, so would probably spend some time with her, but it would be good to ride there and back with someone. Early planning stage, so any comments welcome.

I'm not really an Enfield fan, so will probably only use one if I have to - would prefer something like a DR350 - or whatever similar bikes are available. Although that wouldn't stop anyone else going the Enfield route, as they seem to be common. I won't be racing.

you'll be very luck to get a DR350 infact as lucky as a very lucky thing
that gets very, very lucky in a very, very, very lucky Dr350 factory

Good luck

A 350 is a huge bike in India and Nepal (and probably most non-Western nations). I haven't seen anything that big in India (except for Enfields). There's got to be a few but good luck finding one. There's a Ducati dealership in Mumbai so big bikes exist. I haven't visited it yet but it's in my plans.

I've only seen one 250 in India and Nepal. Most are 100-180ccs.

Umm, do you have any idea what Ducati costs here? Or any non locally manufactured bike?

Clue: approx 180% duty, taxes, etc

DaveSmith 31 Aug 2008 08:16

Yes, I do have an idea of price. That's why I didn't recommend a non-local bike. Just letting him know that there are options but very expensive options. I don't think any Westerners dream of going to India to buy a Ducati.

It'd be a lot easier to rent a non enfield in Goa, rather than Bangalore.... pretty much everything from ungeared scoots to enfields are available in Goa.

READILY AVAILABLE.
