India 2010

Kids,

Good enough?

I'll be in India most of 2010, riding and guiding with Blazing Trails. January, February, March, April in the tropical south, May in Nepal, July, August, September up north in Himachel Pradesh and Ladakh.

So - I'll be on a lead some, but still free to roam some. Anyone fancies a meet and drink, a natter and a moan, wants to talk routes and permits, or maybe needs some Enfield help, please give me a shout here, or, drop me an email. Surely.

Scenes change, forums bicker, but one thing remains constant - overlanders tend to be the finest tribe I've ever met, and I'm always peachy keen to meet more.

Suerte, Dan

Hi Dan

I am looking at a possible biking trip in Indian in Ladakh area in September or so, maybe for a couple weeks. You know where I could rent an Enfield to do that?
Regards,

Larry,

Definitely Manali, maybe Leh, Ladakh. I'll check and get back to you with some more helpful details and content, but the quick answer is 'yes, yes you can, no problem at all'

currently in India

Hi Dan
Simon and I 2ridetheworld.com
are currently in India at the mo. in Jaisalmer heading south after a few days in the desert.
would love to see if we could catch you somewhere. sending me an email is best. lisathomas at 2ridetheworld.com - no spaces!
we will be crossing into Nepal - we hope in May - and then back into India - not too sure exactly when as trying to avoid the worst of the monsoon by being...? who knows where ?- all advice appreciated and welcome!

do you know of any problems with getting a visa to re-enter India from Nepal? we have heard that some have had issues with this. our current Indian visa is a single entry one as it was impossible to get a multiple entry one in Pakistan when we applied.

cheers - hope to meet for a beer and chat!

Feb 2010...

Got my Indian visa yesterday, now just finishing off a couple weeks of small stuff before heading over. Rode US to Panama last winter (3 mos. - GREAT trip) but have never been to Asia, and am anticipating having loads of questions/culture shock upon arrival (I've learned about all I can online, all that's left is the on-the-ground learning curve); plan to take a week or two to acclimatize myself cultural and then grab a bike and ride for a couple-few months, work from South to North, wind up in Ladakh and such when the weather is right for it.
Also I'd like to pick your brain about the tour thing - seems I've got a terribly antisocial habit of biking alone (friends at home ask if I want to ride with them and the only response I can come up with is "Why?" - gotta' be folks on here who know what I mean) and think maybe just once I ought to try it as a group endeavor for a week or two and see what it's like.
I'll arrive the first week or two of February; where will you be middle-to-end of the month? I'll gladly spring for a few frostys to cover tuition - and you may just be able to sign me up for a ride.

Kids,

All good?

Not online often, so forgive sporadic replies. Plotted up in Turtle Bay, Kundapura, Karnataka. Full gushing review in the southern india section, but if anyone's around, give me a shout here, on facebook, or on my indian cell - pm me for the number. Gonna be deep south till April, then heading for Nepal.

Suerte, Dan
