Crossing Africa - April to June - Looking for Partners

Hi everyone,

I'm starting to plan to do a tour through Africa in early Spring for about 3 months.

The route is still quite flexible, but I'm thinking of doing Cairo to Cape Town or that route in reverse. It's about 12K+ KM, depending on how far we'd go and how much time we'd have - will cross around 8 countries in total! The pace would be roughly 1,000KM per week - with planned 2 rest days per week. In terms of accommodations, I'm thinking about 80% camping and 20% everything else.

I'm in my mid-20s, currently live in Boston, did a number of cycling tours in the past but recently started riding, so decided to do the next one on a motorcycle. Very excited about it and would love for 1-2 fellow riders to join me in planning AND doing it.

If you have any thoughts about this, please respond - will be happy to hear from you.

I too am leaving around the July/August time frame for a similar trip. Although I may take it a little slower than you. I want to see a lot of things along the way, so I am probably taking about 5 months. If it goes faster than that than good, I just do not want to be rushed.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
