I'm seeking an overland group: SE asia to europe over 6 months in 2014.

Hi, I'm planning a 6-9 month trip from Singapore to UK, starting around April 2014.
Still not certain of the route:
1) SE asia-Nepal-india-pakistan-iran-turkey?
2) SE asia-Nepal-China-Russia-'stans-iran-turkey?
3) SE asia-Nepal-China-Russia-Scandinavia?

I'll be motorcycling, will ship my bike via air from Australia to Singapore. The plan is to eventually sell the bike in Europe and fly back to Australia to start work in January 2015.

I haven't done an overland trip before so would greatly appreciate being part of a group or riders who have experience at round the world trips as well as motorcycle maintenance. On the other hand I am a qualified doctor by profession which may be of value to the group I'm riding with. I'm also an experienced camper and an expert with gadgets and technology.

To me this will be both a holiday adventure and also an opportunity to volunteer in a variety of eye-surgery clinics around the world (to see how they work). I plan to spend about a couple of weeks in about one eye clinic per country.

I'd like to see as many countries as possible in Asia. I'd particularly like to spend some time at Tilganga Eye Hospital in Nepal.
On the other hand, I'd just like to scoot through Pakistan and Iran to reach Europe as soon as possible to minimise risk.

If your interested in travelling with me or if you already have a group with a similar itinerary, please contact me.

Cheers,

Jan

I'm planning to leave Oman around April /May next year, ferry to Iran and then on to the UK through Turkey.

No fixed dates or plan yet, but I'd be interested in joining up en route.

I don't think you have to be concerned with Iran. Everyone passing through there claims it's the friendliest country they've visited. I'm just annoyed it's the only country I'll need a a carnet for!

Hello

I suggest you to visit Iran on your way because many riders wants to visit one of the friendliest country in the world how ever they ride to east or west ,doesnt matter !!!

I am sure it can be great experience

Hi Jan, I plan a similar trip on my Vespa, starting in Singapore in April 2014 but need to back in Italy in mid-July 2014. So plans are to ride up to Thailand, then to Nepal by plane and through India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and back to Europe.
Cheers Stefan

Why are you flying from thailand to nepal?
Iran sounds like a beautiful place with great people. I will be wary of the police though.

SE Asia - China - Nepal

G'day Jan,

I am an Aussie currently in Timor Leste waiting for the arrival of my motorcycle from Darwin. My plan is to ride through Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and then get to Nepal (fly from Bangkok Thailand to Kathmandu Nepal) to continue through India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and on to Africa.

I would be interested in hearing from other overlanders heading my way who would, like me want to eliminate the Bangkok - Kathmandu flight by riding from Laos through China to Nepal.

As HU followers are aware, it's possible to ride through China but it costs and takes about 3 months to organize. Timing wise Jan we could cross paths in Thailand and overland through Laos / China / Nepal some time in May 2014. If this is a route that would interest you or other overlanders I am prepared to make further inquires regards costs etc.

Regards,

Mick

Interested as well.

G'day, another Aussie on the road. Presently at the western end of Java, I'm a few weeks in front of you Mick. I'm on a Honda CT110 and heading for Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam etc. I also kicked off in Timor Leste. If interested in my trip you can search "Following the front wheel Postie Bike Ride.
So far I have no plan post Thailand but am interested in part of this route, especially if there's a Vespa involved.:mchappy:

I'm on the verge of changing directions and going from the UK back to Singapore. The reason is purely and simply the weather. The period i'd be going in would catch all the monsoons in SE asia as well as snowy europe.

Check the annual rainfall on "Weather Base" for each of the countries you're thinking of visiting

I'm in New Zealand now, and are looking on doing sort of the same trip. Ship the bike to South east Asia and then ride it back.
I will probably start riding in September, which might not be the best time weahterwise... But I will be following this topic.
