Germany to Oz and back via Africa

Katja and I are overlanding (in a Landie, I know, I know, this is a biker site...but we ride as well...just wanted a few comforts along the way!!) to Oz and back via Africa over a 2 year period. We are departing Germany on 3rd Jan 2003 and are looking to hook up with others for the Iran and Pakistan stages. Anyone planning on being at the border of Turkey and Iran around March 1st?

Further, has anyone any experience of going from India to Nepal and China to get to Laos and Vietnam??
