From NYC around the Great Lakes...

From NYC around the Great Lakes, through Canada and back. I'm thinking of a couple of weeks to do this trip. I'm also looking at it as a primer trip to do a nice long one in the spring. I've got a couple in mind, a round trip to Costa Rica and back, or a trip to Ushuaia. Thoughts?

A couple of weeks (14 days) would probably be a nice allocation of time for that proposed tour - but a couple of weeks (10 days) might leave you with a sore butt. :)

I've done that exact tour in the past, starting and ending in Toronto, Canada. It is delightful if you stay off the expressways and interstates - it would be horribly boring if you take the multi-lane highways.

Be aware that there is only one route around the top of the lakes in Canada, and we are just getting into absolute peak season (July 1 to September 7) for that region, because that corresponds to the school holidays in Canada. Thus, you are going to have to be quite alert about planning hotel, motel, or campsite reservations... just about everywhere will be full every night. Don't expect to be able to start looking for a bed or a campsite at 5 in the evening, they will all be taken and you will wind up with (literally) the dregs of the marketplace, if you can find anything at all.

Awesome route, though.

Leaving July 5th same trip.

Going to Montreal then west to Michigan, attending the BMW MOA Rally in West Bend, Wisconsin July 12-14th. Then head towards Kentucky going on rural routes back to Pennsylvania.

Well have to try again later. I just a quick trip to West Bend Wisconsin, and back. I just did the northern route but would like to do a more detailed trip. :thumbup1: Had 3 other riders along so my time was spent staying together.
