From Magadan: Early-mid June
 

Riding to Anchorage with an expected arrival during the 1st week of June. After a week of maintenance, cleaning, customs and boxing the bike up, I expect to arrive in Magadan around teh middle part of June. Anyone here riding westward from Magadan during this time frame?

Hi Chris, In which direction will you be traveling?

I'll start on the East coast of the US (Maryland) riding to Anchorage Alaska. From there I will fly with the bike to Magadan and then ride to Yakuts, Lake Baikal and then into Mongolia. If anyone here is flying a bike from Anchorage to Magadan for a similar ride during this same time frame perhaps we could watch out for each other over what I suspect will be the most challenging riding condition of the journey.

I will be traveling into Mongolia as well and then across to Moscow, but I kinda make my plans as I go along. I am just tryin to get my bike outta customs in Singapore right now and will be in SE Asia for a month or two. I wouldn't mind riding with someone else and would consider sending the bike to Magaden as well if our time lines kinda meet up. I applied for a muli entry visa so that should gimme plenty of time to do the trip. I will then eventually make my way back to california somehow and whenever. Anyways keep in touch as I am going to try and enter China first. Mabey meet up in Mongolia?

Sounds good Chris, lets keep in touch. I also applied for a multi entry 6 month visa for Russia and hope to get it by early-mid May before my departure across the US/Canada to Alaska. It my be late June before I am in Magadan, just need to be flexible to accommodate the shipping process. I’m a bit concerned about the initial leg of the Journey from Magadan, seems the bike will need to get carried over a few rivers in a truck, and then there are bears to be concerned if/when I camp. I’ll be on a kitted KLR650 with spare parts, tools etc. If anyone else is riding from Magadan in June~July, please feel free to send me a private message or e-mail. Though I consider this mostly a solo journey, my better judgment say’s it’s best to have company during this precarious section of the route.

Im in Malaysia now and have ta 3 month double entry that I will apply for when I get to Bankok. I'll keep in touch. I am doing mostly a solo trip but I figure it could never hurt to have a liittle security with some companions. I am camping as well wherever I go too. Hope the shipping goes well for you. I had a heck of a time in Singapore...bad choice to send the bike there.

hope things r going well. just wondering where sent your bike? did u send it by boat/plane? how much did it cost? did u need a carnet? i'm just trying to work out where is going to be the easiest place to go from darwin to SE Asia

Sorry couldn't email u Privetly,
I do not have a carnet and sending it to singapor was a nighmare because of this. I sent it via plane and use hellmans worldwide logistics. Everything in darwin is very straitfoward. Just see the dangerous goods mangment, crate it up and off u go. However, if u plan to sent it to singapore without a carnet it will require a little legwork. this should be ok if you sent\d it by sea and have the time to get it ready befor it arrives. I used Permit Providers in the CIAS building of the Cargo Terminal. The customs permit costs about an extra 120$ for entra and another $120 for exit permit. Then I had to go to the transit authority and get a visitors liscense only after getting insuranse based in singapore. Luckly I found a place that would insure me for 1 day just to leave the country as ALL the rest require 1 year terms.( could pay for one monthe then split) Anyhow, if you have a carnet , then u would just drive off....no worries, no problems. Malaysia was easy as, no worries there.

i'm planning on riding melbourne OZ (jan 07) - IOM england (may 07). that's if all goes well. and then from there, well something will come up. all depends on the cash flow. which atm isn't the best. i can't wait i wish i could go 2moz. i'm an impulse person, if i had the cash would leave 2moz and sort out the problems along the way... i have all the time in the world!

Singapore is a nightmare even with a Carnet. If you do a search on the Hubb you will find lots of curses about getting bikes through Singapore.

I am in Thailand now and planning to make my way through indo china from here then attempt to enter China and get into Kazakhstan and up into russia and across to europe.
I guess that I am just reinforcing what a nightmare Sigapore really was. I am not cursing the country of the people as all of them were very helpful and friendly. Itis the logistics of the whole darn thing. Trust me, smiling won't get you by any faster, but cash will. Just to get to your bike you have to go through a lock down area. Just give yourself a little time and patience if you decide to go there. Doable as I did, but a little fustrating. If you contact permitproviders, they can have everything ready for you to makelife easier.
