I am planning to leave San Diego, Ca in November, then ride down through Central America, catching a ferry to Venezuela from Panama, the circling South America. Our trips almost coincide on dates, I hope to be in Rio for "Carnival" in February and drink large amounts of wine in Argentina and Chile. If you are interested in getting together, tsnrefc@yahoo.com

Hello,

If your planning is still the same, as from January, my planning might coincide with yours. Although I have to buy a bike somewhere in Argentina/Chili.

This part of my planning is fixed:
- September & October 2010: volunteering in Haiti
- November 2010: climbing Aconcagua

The rest is still flexible, but this is my idea currently:

From beginning of December, I will travel by bus Southward in Argentina up to Ushuaia probably.

After which I am planning to go North up to Columbia (through Argentina,Chili,Bolivia,Peru, Ecuador,Columbia). That North bound trip, I would like to do on motorbike. So pick-up bike in the period December 2010- January 2011.

I will probably also need to sort out clothing gear and stuff (as I am hesitant to drag this around Haiti and around the Aconcagua).

let me know what your current status/ideas are.

with regards,

Bart

Good luck

Hey Bart,
how's it going man? I'm volunteering in Haiti myself for Oct/Nov and then picking up a bike in Florida, following the gulf coast to Mexico and then south all the way for approx 1 year. Good luck with your trip man especially Haiti, it's pretty rough over there but they could do with all the help they can get! Maybe see ya on the road,
Aaron

Question riding into Mexico and south

I am at present in Louisiana gathering spare parts for my Sherpa and will be heading south into Mexico soon.
Anyone else going that way around this time?

North to South

I'm an Australian. I'll will be arriving into Quito, Ecuador at the end of Jan, planning on doing some trekking/climbing first, until my bike arrives, then heading south. So for all those en-tripped travelers who will be in SA during the same period, enjoy your journey, and maybe our paths will cross?

Cheers
Martyn

WOW! at last!

Ahoy all, I'll be in SA without much of a plan from around 4th February 2011 onwards. Probably starting in Santiago and heading south for Ushuaia. Prob head up after that to Buenos and up the pantanal then most likely crossing back across to the west coast to head north to Canada, going by Peru etc.

I'll be keen to catch up with yas and ride. Keep us all updated with your plans! Cheers, Rossy.

There is no ferry from Panama to Venezuela

Smokechase, looks like you'll have to rethink your itinerary. There is no ferry from Panama to Venezuela. There is also no ferry to Colombia. There are a couple of boats (private) that will get you to Colombia... the best reports are about the Stahlratte, but getting to Venezuela will be a challenge.

You might also consider flying to Bogota and riding to Venezuela. The border crossing has improved significantly in the last few months, as well as the security situation.
