Ferry from france to UK
 

Can any one tell us the cost of a ferry from France to the UK...people x 2 and motorbikes x 2. Can you just arrive and buy a ticket or should you book? And is it cheaper if you book ahead? Or is the train/tunnel cheaper?

Yes you can just turn up and buy a ticket. Not sure if it's cheaper to book online, but I've just got online prices to give you a ball park figure. The Eurotunnel is 100 Euros and SeaFrance want £29, one-way for a bike with two people.
I've never used the tunnel with a bike, but have heard that they're not very biker friendly, so would recommend the ferry, even if it takes a little longer. At least you can have a meal on the ferry - there's b*gger all to do in the tunnel!

It depends how long you are going for ???a3day ... the tunnel is 35mins... i have found them ok with bikers.... you can just turn up yeah ... also check out the day trips ....sometimes £10.... but if you pay by C.Card they will sting you for full fare if you dont re-turn same day.....if you pay cash they take bike reg.. but then you come back on the ferry ..theres a new ferry service called SpeedFeries that are cheap ....Check out a cupple of bike-clubs sometimes they have contacts and can get a good deal ......''safe riding''.....

Look online for the best deal. Last year, in July, the tunnel offered return tickets for bike, rider and pillion for fifty pounds.
You can't beat 25 pounds all-in for such a convenient way to cross (no sea-sickness).
The only drawback is you have to stipulate your dates and stick to specific times within them (but not specific crossings).</p>

Eurotunnel are still doing the £50 return offer,bike and up to 2 riders.The only catch(there usually is one!) is that it only applies to crossings between 5pm and 11am(local times).That works out well for me here in West Wales as it gives me a day to get to the terminal on the outward trip,and all day to get home on my way back.The crossing is only something like 35 mins too,so gives more riding time http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Cheapest prices I just found were £24 one way fron Eurotunnel - between 10 and 12pm...... or 27.50 on Seafrance all day - so not much in it. Return prices are just double so its best to get one way and stay flexible.

Just got back from a week in France via the tunnel,and what a straightforward experience it was too! I was a bit early getting there(had bought the tickets online beforehand),and the guy at the ticket office thingy asked if i'd like to go on an earlier crossing as there was room,which was gladly accepted.The whole customs/boarding thing is so quick being less than 7 mins from when i left the ticket office to when i rode into the train! And as an added bonus,i was in a carridge with a few other bikers to chat with too.Seemed like it only took 5 mins to cross! Anyone else got any good/bad experiences with the tunnel?

Just type 'ferry' or 'english channel' into google and you'll get heaps of info.
