Hi lamoufle,
Live in UK and teaming up with some people for mongolian trip. I would like to drop into Iran fron Georgia and Armenia. I would like to spend some time in Iran and cover some dirt tracks in the north by the Caspian Sea.
As you know Iran requires Carnet de Passage. Getting this in UK via RAC is a pain. Can British national get a CdP from France?

Hi hibble!

well I don't thing you can get your carnet from France, and i don't really think it's useful, i try to get it from Germany where it's really cheaper but no success
So i get mine from France it cost me 250 euros just for the carnet plus 4000 euros of guarantee that i should get back... that is to say 250% of the value of my bike.

I know that english friend get a carnet in soudan for 200usd so maybe some other trick in Turkey or elsewhere....
I had crossed Africa on the east cost and my carnet was reallly really unuseful ! so except for Iran i don't think its really worth it

Anyway good luck!

Ah.. thats right, ADAC of Germany said to me the regulations changed an I have to get my CdP from UK. I found a contact in iran now who sorts out CdP at the border with Turkey. Wait an see I guess. I know if things go wrong, under worst scenario, Iranian Custom will accept Bankers Guarantee (1.5 x value of your vehicle) through their bank at the border.
I think I might bypass RAC and deal with it at the border.
Good luck with your trip. Who knows we might meet up there...... I have a farm land by the Caspian Sea... if I'm there and you're in Iran please call in.
Keep in touch and take care.
Regards Hibble.

Asia Roundtour

I will make the beginning of May an Asia-round tour. From Germany I drive through Ukraine, Georgia, Iran, Silk Road, Pamir, Kazakhstan, Russia to Vladivostok. For this I have planned 4 months. On the way back I want to travel across the Philippines, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey. As a period I have planned a year, but is also renewable. For the night, I prefer simple hostels or the tent. I would be glad if someone accompanied me on the tour or individual sections.

Hi Harthel, a bunch of us is doing the same thing, most starting about early May. Check the post called "UK to Mongolia 2014" (started by Hootchy Cootchy) a little furter down in this section. You can share info with all of us and see if you can match your plans with others and possibly travel together, if you want!

In post #29 of the mentioned post you can download an Excel sheet to add your details and forward them to me, my email is in the document. I will update to overall list and share it between all people on the list which are about 15 now!

cheers,
Noel

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
