EurAsia 2014

Hi guys

It's very early so I am not expecting much response but just putting the feelers out for anyone else that might be considering a similar trip in 2014 to meet up for parts of the way.

Keen on a motorcycle trip mixed with hiking/pushbiking/sailing/surfing where possible.

Planning on leaving the UK in April 2014 and riding the Pyrenees, then head East through (roughly) the following countries, HelpX-ing along the way:

France
Switzerland
Austria
Italy
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Hungary
Croatia (specifically interested in this area)

then in earlyish August 2014 head across to
Turkey
Iran

then in September 2014 cross into
Pakistan (want to head north and do the KKH and potential do a base camp trek)

October/November 2014
India (more a transitional thing)
Nepal (mountains!)

from here is undetermined, but will probably ditch the motorbike in this area (Carnet might be an issue...) and then fly to SE Asia and pushbike the rest of the way to Australia.

This might sounds structured but is actually fairly flexible, just the general gist of countries and rough timings to try and get the best of the seasons. The only thing that's fairly definite is leaving in late March/April.

Or if you are based in any of these places, I would love to meet you and have a beer or cup of tea!

Nicola

Hi Nicola!
I also plan to go by bike from austria to australia in 2014. The route and the time frame are similar of course, on account of the optimum holiday season in the travel lands. I would like to, mountain climbing as well as you, in Nepal. Therefore, I will be in October or November there.
I have 1 year time for the trip to Australia and would like to start mid-June. Perhaps we could meet on the route:scooter: or you look over in Austria with me. bier
Would be delighted to hear from you.
Greetings from Austria
Andreas

Hi are you based in the UK or AUS?

nicola_a 30 Oct 2012 02:01

Hi Andreas!
Sorry for the delayed reply, I didn't get any notification that someone had posted in this thread!
Indeed it would be great to meet up - I am making a list of people who have expressed interest in the trip as well. I will add you to is! Especially looking for others to cross Iran/Pakistan with.
Of course plans will change but at this stage I plan to be in Austria/Italy/Croatia area about when you are due to leave (June).

Hi Richie, thanks for your PM! I'll reply shortly. But to answer your question, I'm based in Australia.

andresmoto 1 Nov 2012 11:59

Hi nicola!
I already traveled through the Iran. Felt at that time very safe. But times are changing. I think Pakistan is a bit problematic at time.

Please keep me informed.
Andreas

trackdayrider 9 Dec 2012 22:18

my current "plan" departs around the same time.. crossing Germany and over the Alps, through Italy, Greece, Turkey. then somehow (black sea crossing?) up towards Volgograd, into Kazakhstan, then out to the KKH Pakistan/India to Nepal .
Then probably freight to Bangkok, divert to visit my brother in Vietnam.
Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia.. then out to the US via New Zealand if time and funds allow

:)

Hello Guys,
1-All questions (if you have) about entering Turkey on a bike and riding in Turkey including places to see are always welcome.
2-We are already a meeting place for bikers from west to east or visa versa to exchange maps, advices and have some barbecue inside the forest..
The only free camping place by the lake side. And cheap pension and good work shop with all spare parts, tyre changing machine are very close..
3-Highly recommend to participate the motobike festivals which are organised in different towns between end of april and september..You will have free camping, amusements, shows, fun together with local bikers and bike club members..2013 program will be announced here when clear..

Wish you all the best.

Hello Nicola,

OK, you've grabbed my interest in a trek going east.
I understand you're based in Melbourne (Aus), just over the water a few km from where I am, the north of Tasmania.

I just came back again from spending three months mostly in France, mid May to mid August, where I have bought myself a bike and have it in storage until I go there end of next May 2013 for my next adventure for another three months, where I would like to go through Italy and into Slovenia, then up through Austria.

But for 2014 I like your idea of heading more into eastern block countries.

Coolblackbird's trip looks good too, and is in fact pretty well what I had in mind at this stage,

I have my bike stored in the north west of France, up near Angers, and it takes me around two or three days to get myself down to the south east in the Drome area (Rhone-Alpes) where I have a family home I stay at sometimes.

The bike I have is Yamaha TDM 850 twin, all set up for touring.
But I thought if I were to be more adventurous I could look at moving to a different moto. My TDM has served pretyy well on all the roads and tracks I have riden this year. My French assurance (we call insurance) is with AXA and I can pretty well go anywhere in Europe, Russia included.

So, yep, I would be interested to be in the loop and start discussing ideas.

Keep us posted,
Paul
