I'm planning a similar trip around that time, my bike is currently in Anchorage so i'm looking into my shipping options to get it to Vladivostock around april/may as well. I might ride it down to WA in the spring and ship from there. Im wanting to do Russia, Mongolia, Kazakstan, chernobyl in Ukraine, and Auschwitz in Poland and end up around the UK area. Would be fun to ride with someone a bit!

Mongolia Kazakstan

Hi Calvin, seems everyone wants to go through Mongolia.
I will stay in Russia. The roads in Russia are bad enough, I don't know if they even have roads in Mongolia.
I can almost speak Russian now, and I kind of know them enough that they hardly seem like foreigners to me anymore.
But keep in touch. Maybe after you have battled your way through the sand and come out the other side of Kazakstan we could meet up again.
I think Kazakstan is Ok for roads ... But I don't know for sure.
But I do know one thing. Its so good in Russia I didn't want to leave !

For some reason I don't get notification from this site, otherwise I would have messaged you earlier.
Regards
Louie

Hi! Roads in Kazakhstan is excellent quality or awful. Now actively there are their reconstruction. As in summer of 2012:

From Russia to Alma-Ata we go so: Troitsk (rus) - Kostanay-Astana-Karaganda-Balkhash (lake)-Chu-Alma-Ata (near the Chu road is in bad condition)

The new road is constructing from Alma-Ata to Chimkent

Hi Andrey.
I learn Russian 5 hours a week.
My Russian is very bad, but I try.
I will study for one month - (May) in the Volgograd University.
Then return to Vladivostok.
When you are traveling?
I have no interest in other countries, only in Russia

Vladiwostok to Central Europe

Salve,
I am Michael from Austria. I am travelling to Japan beginning of May and after that, beginning of June 2013, I will ship the bike to Sakkalin and then go to Chabarowsk in Russia. From there I would like to travel through Siberia, then Mongolia and back home to Austria.

Teo, I have read your travel plans. Seems as if we match here.
I would be most happy to hearing from you soon.

My bike is in Cairns, Australia at the moment and will be shipped from there to Japan in early May this year.

All the best
Michael

Are you still planning to ride Asia this summer? Have you decided on your KLR transport yet? I am thinking of riding Cincinnati to Vancouver the end of May and shipping from there.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
