elephant 2010

Hi anyone out there going to the sollo elephant rally? as i,m going and would like to find some like minded people. I,m using a 600cc single so it will be at a steady pace.
I will be camping so you will have to be ok with camping in the cold.
So if you are up for it drop me a line.:D

Elephant 2010

Hi, I'm planning to do this trip (i'm in North Devon so am quite close to you) the only downside is i'm doing it on my trusty honda c90. I've got a Huqsvarna 610 enduro but i like my 90 too much lol.
So although i'm going I imagine you'll be travelling a bit faster than me
If anyone else is planning this trip on a c90 or i can convert you to the way of the step-though then let me know.:scooter:

Cheers

Ed

Hey Poodlebiscuit,

I'll race you -I'm going on my 125 cc Suzuki Address Pizza delivery bike from London. Was going on the Fazer, then the Serow, but have now decided the honours should go to my daily commute horse for a laugh. Given that it does the job for whole Vietnamese families, then I'm confident that it'll take me, my tent and toothbrush there and back for a winter weekend.

I don't know - I don't even know how far it is although I'm guessing at about 1000k. It all depends on the time off work situation and of course the weather. I'm a bit of a tart when it comes to riding on slippery surfaces so I can see it taking me months if it's nasty but given that I'm only likely to be able to get a max of a week total to get there and back (not incl w/e) then I guess I'll have to literally get my skates on, in a controlled sort of way that is. But there is a possibility of me going on a C90 if I can find a decent one in time - or even a half decent one that I can sort out for the trip. I quite fancy that idea as I'd then be able to use it again and again and again. How long do you reckon you'll take to get there?:thumbup1:

still not too sure but from where i am (devon) its 1000miles so i think i'm gona do it over 3 days and doing 350 miles a day probably gona stop just in France on the first night (getting the tunnel i think as well to save time, time is my biggest enemy on my 90 lol).
350 miles a day should be a push but do-able, I don't mind pushing myself to get the journey done a bit quicker.

When it comes to the slippery cold stuff on my c90 I'm quite good at it (also ride enduro on a 610), what i found the best thing to do is get some rope and wrap it round the rear tyre to make a crude snow chain. here's a couple of photos of me being used a ski-lift on dartmoor towing snowboarders and sledges up the hills.

i have been thinking of going for the last few years but i can not find any like minded people from my neck of the woods.i live in belfast n.ireland.i also will be using a 600 single.either my xr or more than likely my old xl600lm.the engine is a bit tired but i have plenty of time to get it up to scratch.camping in the cold is part of the attraction for me.i am 41 and an elephant virgin but 2010 feels like the right time to go.what 600 single do you plan to use, what route will you be taking and what style off riding do you prefer ie get there the fastest way possible or take it easy and enjoy every possible second.i would prefer to take my time but try and aim to arrive early thursday. then if theres any problems on the way we will have time to sort them without panic.i am very laid back and open to all and any suggestions.regards ian.
